Photos of Bathing Women in Mahakumbh Available on Telegram and other Social Media Channels; Creates Uproar

In today’s digital era, the rapid advancement of technology has enabled the swift dissemination of both good and bad content. Unfortunately, when technology falls into the wrong hands, it is often misused, leading to serious social concerns. Recently, obscene videos have been making rounds on social media platforms, raising significant alarm among the public. One such distressing trend involves videos of women bathing at the holy rivers during the Maha Kumbh, which have been shared across various platforms.

Maha Kumbh and the Negative Attention

The Maha Kumbh, one of the most sacred and auspicious gatherings in Hindu tradition, has recently been subjected to negative media coverage. Reports regarding the unsuitability of the water for bathing have already caused concern, and now, the circulation of inappropriate videos has further tainted the event’s reputation. Instead of focusing on the religious and cultural significance of the Maha Kumbh, the event has been drawing negative attention due to the unethical actions of individuals misusing technology.

Several social media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, have become hosts of these intrusive videos. In these clips, women can be seen taking holy dips at the riverbanks, often unaware that they are being filmed. Worse, these videos serve as clickbait, leading viewers to external links and Telegram channels where more explicit content is accessible.

    Violation of Women’s Privacy

The invasion of privacy in such a sacred setting is deeply concerning. A particularly disturbing case involves a video where a woman is seen bathing at the river, with the camera deliberately zooming in on her exposed back and buttocks without her knowledge. This is a gross violation of personal dignity and a clear breach of cybersecurity laws.

Furthermore, Facebook pages dedicated to promoting obscene content have been actively sharing such videos under misleading captions like “Maha Kumbh Ganga Snan Prayagraj.” Many of these posts also feature hashtags such as #mahakumbh2025, #gangasnan, and #prayagrajkumbh, making it easier for such content to spread rapidly. The misuse of these sacred terms has not only contributed to misinformation but has also endangered the privacy of countless women attending the event.

    Misleading Videos and Data Banks

Upon closer examination, some of the viral videos circulating online are unrelated to the current Maha Kumbh. Several clips are old recordings of women bathing and changing clothes, which were taken long ago. However, these videos are now being reposted with false claims, misleading the public into believing they are from the ongoing Maha Kumbh event.

In addition, some individuals and groups have created data banks where obscene videos of women are stored and accessed by users. These illicit archives further contribute to the exploitation of unsuspecting individuals, making it even more crucial for authorities to intervene and take strict action against those responsible.

The Role of Telegram Channels in Spreading Illegal Content

Investigations have revealed that two major Telegram channels are actively involved in sharing obscene videos of women bathing and changing clothes. These channels, operating under names like “Ganga River Open Bathing Group,” “Hidden Bath Video Group,” and “Open Bath Videos Group,” facilitate the distribution of illegal content for monetary gains.

According to data from Telemetrio, a Telegram search engine, there was a notable increase in searches for terms like “open bathing” between February 12th and February 18th. This indicates the growing demand for such unethical content. Many of these videos depict women modestly covering themselves with towels or changing clothes, but they are still being exploited for voyeuristic purposes.

Accessing these private groups comes at a cost, with subscription fees ranging from Rs 1,199 to Rs 3,000. Shockingly, the same Telegram channels were previously involved in sharing CCTV footage of women undergoing treatment in private hospitals. As authorities continue their investigation, several of these channels have started deleting their accounts to evade legal consequences.
