Some of the famous religious sites and tourist destinations of India will soon have ropeway connectivity for the convenience of travelers and devotees, alike.
In a recent update, the Indian government has announced plans to establish ropeway connectivity at 18 major religious and tourist destinations across India. The Amarnath temple is the main focus.
The government has sought proposals from consultants to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for these developments. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and provide a more convenient travel option for visitors to these revered sites.
Among the proposed projects, the ropeway connecting the Amarnath shrine to Baltal stands out as the largest.
Stretching over 11.6 kilometers, this project will offer a cost-effective alternative for pilgrims who currently have to either trek long distances or use expensive helicopter services during the two-month annual yatra. The ropeway will significantly reduce travel time and physical strain, making it easier for devotees to visit the shrine.
Other important projects in this scheme include the ropeway to the Sabarimala Temple in Kerala. Spanning 2.62 kilometers, this ropeway will eliminate the strenuous two-hour climb from Pamba, one of the most challenging parts of the pilgrimage.
Additionally, Tamil Nadu’s Parvathamalai Temple, known for its cultural and religious significance in Hindu mythology, will also benefit from a ropeway project. The proposed 3.21-kilometer ropeway will provide easier access to this popular destination, making it more accessible to a wider range of pilgrims and tourists.
