However, this viral video has been making several rounds on social media with users identifying the suspect as a Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana’s Youth Wing member. Some users bashed the former calling slapping a legal offence, assualt and completely wrong. While others came in support and said every bank employee who mistreats people deserves this.
As per the reports, the former is a Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana’s Youth Wing President named Mayur Borde, who was caught on camera slapping a bank branch manager in Maharashtra’s Jalna district multiple times, accusing him of harassment to farmers.
The branch manager was identified as Dhirendra Sonkar.
The incident took place at the Warud Branch of Bank of Maharashtra. Mayur Borde received several complaints from farmers and others regarding the branch manager’s non-cooperative and harsh behavior towards them in availing with various bank services, including crop loans, government subsidies, etc.
Following the incident, the bank manager, Sonkar filed a FIR against Borde at Jaffrabad Police Station, and he has been taken into custody.
Notably, the Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathana’s youth wing Manager was likely to contest Maharashtra’s upcoming assembly elections from Bhokardan-Jaffrabad under which Warud village falls.
In his recent statement, Borde made certain accusations on the Branch Manager, alleging that he was asking farmers to give a written declaration about when the crop loan will be repaid. He further revealed that in some cases the loan was also denied and the needy individuals for whom the government is depositing subsidies are also facing similar harassment.
He asserted that he would do the same to any manager who “ill-treats” farmers.
