US Plane Brings 104 Indians: Lands at Amritsar

    Read Later

US President Donald Trump has previously mentioned that he will take all the necessary actions to stop illegal migration, and it is now evident that he has been keeping his word. About 104 Indians were deported from the US to Amritsar through a military aircraft C-17 back to India. Surprisingly, this is the first time the US has used a Military aircraft for such deportation purposes.

    Who Were Permitted?

According to official information, the US government is not putting all immigrants through the deportation process; those who have been verified during the Biden administration and also during Trump’s first administration as President have been allowed to stay back. Hence the US employed fewer flights for the deportation of Indians.

Why was a Military Aircraft Used?

This is the first time the US government has used Military aircraft to deport Indian immigrants back to India, hence questions were raised regarding that.

Although there was no official data released on the number of people who have been deported from the US, according to various sources the arrivals at Amristar yesterday included 25 women and 13 children. The state-wise break up would include Haryana-35, Gujarat-33, Punjab-31, Uttar Pradesh- 3 and 2 people belonged to Maharashtra.

    A Speculation

The military aircraft that departed from San Antonio in Texas arrived at Amristar around 1.55 pm and returned around 5.15 pm. There were speculations that people were handcuffed in the aircraft while they were traveling. A Punjab government official said that some people were made to wear handcuffs, barring the kids but he is not sure about the information.

Spent Rs 1 crore To Reach US

Some deportees at the Airport told a government official that they had been picked up from US- the US-Mexico border about 10 days ago. Some others said that they traveled to the US from the UK.

People who were involved in the clearance process revealed that deportees traveling to Punjab and Haryana were sent to their respective homes by road. Deportees traveling to Gujarat had their flights scheduled on Wednesday evening.

A Gujarati family claims to have paid Rs 1 crore to reach the US, a government official said. Another person from a border village at Amritsar has sold one and a half acres of land and a sum amount of Rs 42 lakhs to send his nephew abroad, who reached the US via Mexico only a few months ago.

A retired Police officer in Punjab, Charanjit Singh was at the airport to receive his grandson Ajaydeep Singh, a resident of Amristar Chantt, He revealed that his grandson was made to stay in a camp before being deported. Regarding this when an official was questioned if the families were aware of the circumstances of their relative’s return, he revealed that certain people requested not to inform their families regarding this,

Several counters have been set up at the airport for the completion of the documented process for the deportees who have arrived back in India.  Several police vehicles and buses were used to travel the deportees from the cargo terminal to their hometowns.
