Speed Meets Tragedy: 28-Year-Old Software Engineer Dies in Gurugram Bike-Car Collision

A promising life was cut short when a 28-year-old software engineer, Somita Singh, was fatally injured in a road accident on Gurugram’s Leopard Trail. A native of Lucknow and currently working in Noida, Somita was returning from a weekend ride with her women's biking group when her rented BMW sports bike was hit by a speeding Hyundai Verna.
Leopard Café, which is well-known among bikers, served as the location where the incident took place on a Saturday evening. Somita belonged to the “Let’s Ride India” group, which exists to support women riders through training. The members traveled from Gurugram toward Noida before the accident took place. This accident caused severe critical damage to her body. The BMW G310 bike survived the accident without major damage, but the collision resulted in fatal consequences for the driver.
The collective members of her riding group initiated a rescue call, which resulted in emergency transport to Sector-10 Civil Hospital. Medical professionals reported her death right after she arrived at the hospital.

Somita's tragic death adds to the escalating fatalities from automobile accidents throughout Gurugram's metropolitan zone. Shockingly, Leopard Trail, which used to be considered a less risky area for leisure biking, now poses serious dangers due to speed violations along with careless driving behavior among residents and insufficient traffic management practices.
The traffic data shows that two-wheeler accidents in Gurugram have greatly escalated over the weekends. Safety measures have not caught up with the growing trend of youngsters riding at breakneck speed. Experts believe the authorities must step up with stronger traffic enforcement, rider education, and public awareness campaigns.
Somita had recently joined the Let’s Ride India group, where she was undergoing sports bike training without informing her family. The group, based in Noida’s Sector 135, also offers high-end bikes for rent. The red BMW bike involved in the crash was rented through this group. Somita was one of the 20–25 women riders on the group’s weekend ride to Gurugram. Investigating officer Naveen Kumar from Badshahpur police station confirmed the fatal accident occurred on Leopard Trail Road. The Hyundai Verna involved (HR26EX-2514) is now under investigation.
After being alerted by the riders, police reached the scene and launched a probe. Somita’s father, Mahendra Pal, arrived from Lucknow and claimed her body following the postmortem. A formal complaint was registered at Badshahpur police station.
Somita had been working with a Noida-based technology company for the past eight months. Her co-workers described her as an intelligent, fearless, and filled-with-life person. She was always enthusiastic about trying something new — and riding was one of them.
Her death has left her family, friends, and fellow riders heartbroken. It has also rekindled debate on the imperative for enhanced road safety habits, better rider-group management, and responsible driving awareness — particularly on weekend routes popular among bikers.
