Novak Djokovic achieved his 90th victory at the US Open 2024 by defending Laslo Djere in the second round with scores 6-4, 6-4, 2-0 on Wednesday. This win makes him the first player in history to secure 90 wins at each of the four Grand Slam Tournaments.

Notably, in the first match, Djokovic registered his 89th US Open victory when he won against Radu Albot beating him with scores of 6-2, 6-2, 6-412 in the straight three sets.

Notably, this triumph has positioned him equivalent to Roger Federerā€™s record as the world’s No. 1 Swiss former professional tennis player. This achievement comes after winning a successive gold at the Paris Olympics 2024, held 23 days earlier. This was his first Olympic gold in the menā€™s singles in a thrilling match against Carlos Alcaraz, scoring 7-6, 7-6.

The 37-year-old Serbian player is now aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title, which would make him the most decorated tennis player in history.

This is to be noted that currently, Djokovic has 24 Grand Slam titles to his credit. Since 2017, the player has won at least one major title annually. However, despite his continued dominance in the previous years, Djokovic is still seeking his first Grand Slam title of the year 2024.

However, despite the victory, Djokovic was not at his best, as he made at least 40 unforced errors and 10 double faults.

“I wanted to kickstart the tournament in the right way, and I think I did. Some ups and downs, which I think are normal, getting the rust off your shoulders coming off a different surface, and the Olympic Games. I haven’t played on hard courts for six months, so I’m still finding that groove, finding the tempo on the court,ā€ he added.
