    Could Sports be Your Career Choice?

    When we are dedicated towards something, turning that passion into a career can never be regretful. Many consider sports to be leisure activity or something that has no value further, but it is more than just that.  

    Recently, during her visit to Velammal Nexus School, Chennai, double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker shared her inspirational journey. She also emphasized the transforming power of sports as a career option. She told the students to consider athletics as a viable career path. Adding to her statement, she said, “Sports has an abundance of employment opportunities. You don’t have to limit yourself to becoming an engineer or a doctor. Sports life is a beautiful life. It can provide you financial support and range of offers.” 

     Sports in India 

    Traditionally considered as a mere hobby in India, people nowadays are acknowledging sports as a viable career option. While cricket often dominates this discussion, there are many other games that can lead to potential careers. This includes, table tennis, badminton, wrestling, shooting and javelin, etc.

    This line has a broad spectrum to offer the younger generation. They can pursue other professions, like management, physiotherapy department, sports medicine and other creative fields.  

    Apart from cricket, other fields are now getting a high recognition in India, especially after Olympics. According to a survey, 71% of Indian parents are now encouraging their kids to choose this line.  

    Reasons to opt for Sports as a Career

    Academic Progress: Research has indicated that kids’ minds perform progressively when they participate in athletics on a regular basis. This activity increases a child’s focus and attention, enhancing academic success. Physical involvement develops abilities that contribute to advanced learning and classroom success.  

    Job Security: Sports as a career offers a degree of employment security that is rare in many other fields. Although becoming a professional athlete may not be a calling for everyone, there are many alternatives sports career choices. This can range from coaching to athlete training.

    Healthy Lifestyle: Participating in sports makes one feel emotionally better and boost physical activity levels. This benefit helps maintain a balance between both mental and physical health. Playing games are crucial part for a child’s health also as it supports overall well-being.  

     Sportsmanship: Sportsmanship encourages fair playing, respecting rivals and appreciating the authorities’ role in any sporting event. This inclusive and respectful environment helps instill important life lessons like cooperation and honesty.
