Indian Women’s Cricket team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, won by 6 wickets against the Pakistani Team and got off the mark at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. The Indian team took on Fatima Sana’s Pakistan team in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, the 6th of October, 2024.
Moving on the positive lines, the Indian team made their first win of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. It went ahead of the Pakistan team amid a great crowd comprising a maximum number of fans for both sides.
However, the Indian team missed a chance to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR), as they achieved the target of 106 off 18.5 overs with six wickets to spare. India suffered for their NRR because of the margin of defeat against New Zealand. With Australia still to come later in this group, India still finds itself in a tough situation.
Earlier, India restricted Pakistan to 105 for eight in their much-awaited match. After winning the toss Pakistan decided to bat first but failed to get off to a good start and struggled through the innings. Nida Dar made top scores for Pakistan with 28 off 34 balls.
The Indian bowlers maintained a tight line and length to defeat the Pakistan batters while picking up wickets regularly. Off-spinner Shreyanka Patil (2/12) and Arundhati Reddy (3/19) grabbed five wickets.
Fatima had won the toss and opted to bat first in the afternoon heat. India made one change to the XI with Pooja Vastrakar out and Sajana Sajeevan coming in.
INDIA XI: Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (Wk), Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Sajana Sajeevan, Shreyanka Patil, Asha Sobhana, and, Renuka Thakur Singh
PAKISTAN XI: Fatima Sana (c), Muneeba Ali (wk), Gull Feroza, Sidra Amin, Nida Dar, Aliya Riaz, Omaima Sohail, Tuba Hassan, Nashra Sandhu, Aroob Shah, Sadia Iqbal.
The 58-run defeat against New Zealand had already left India in a precarious position in the group, taking their NRR down to -2.90. The win against Pakistan improved India’s NRR, only marginally, to -1.22. The Indian team still has a lot of work to do to reach the semifinals.
About NRR, Indians shared that “players thought about it, but we were struggling to time the ball properly. So, we tried to be calculative, ensuring we didn’t lose too many wickets and put pressure on ourselves. We wanted to get over the line comfortably.”
