Suzuki to Go green in India by launching EVs by 2030

As a late enteral among strong competitors in India,Suzukiis up to rethinking their strategy and launching EV models in the coming years

Maruti-Suzuki in India has so far focused on hybrid cars, CNG, or ICE-based vehicles. However, with the aim of securing 50% of the market share in India, Suzuki is coming up with its own battery-electric vehicles, starting with the e-Vitara, which was first launched at Auto Expo 2025. Suzuki has also lined up another set of EV projects to launch by 2030.

India: a market for Suzuki EVs

As the Indian government pushes for the electrification of vehicles and a growing consumer potential, the contemporary slowdown of EV automobiles in global markets like Europe and China leads Suzuki to shift its focus to the Indian market.

Suzukiis strategizing to expand its service network by including charging stations and enhancing ownership experiences for EVs to address competitive concerns.

The Green Initiative

Suzuki is focusing on hybrid and hydrogen-based solutions in the global electric vehicle (EV) market, rather than relying exclusively on battery electric vehicles. This approach aims to enhance fuel efficiency in compact cars. The company is also researching hydrogen fuel cells to contribute to decarbonization efforts.

E-Vitara

At the Auto Expo- 2025, in JanuaryMaruti-Suzukidisplayed its first electrical vehicle named E-Vitara, which is an electric SUV with a battery power of 48.8kWh and a 61.1kWh, its range was told to be over 500 km.

The E-Vitara is equipped with modern features, including a 360-degree camera, seven airbags, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), ventilated front seats, and a driver’s seat that offers 10-way power adjustment. In the India-spec trim, it also comes with a front-wheel drive option. The car has arrived at dealerships and is set to launch with a price range of 17 to 23 lakhs.

As a latecomer in the market, the model is being compared to competitors like Tata and Hyundai. However, due to its potential roadmap as an EV, mainstream adoption is expected.

The upcoming EV projects

Following the launch of the E-Vitara, the company plans to introduce three additional electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. One of these will be an entry-level all-electric model called the Fronx EV, based on the Baleno premium hatchback. Another planned model is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV. Additionally, the company aims to increase its annual production capacity to 4 million units at its manufacturing facilities located in Khadkhoda and Gujarat. However, Suzuki has not made any official announcements regarding these plans yet.
