Born on September 14, 1990, in Mumbai, Suryakumar's cricketing journey began on the hallowed grounds of Mumbai's club and domestic circuit. He made his First-Class debut for Mumbai in the 2010-11 Ranji season and quickly established himself as a prolific run-scorer. His consistent performances in domestic cricket, including leading his side with 754 runs in the 2011-12 Ranji Trophy, showcased his immense potential.

His most prolific IPL season came in 2023, where he amassed 605 runs at a staggering strike rate of 181.14, a testament to his evolution as a destructive T20 batter.

His stellar performances in the IPL and domestic circuit could no longer be ignored by the national selectors. In March 2021, at the age of 30, he finally made his T20I debut for India against England.
