The accused driver in the Noida Lamborghini accident, has been granted bail by the District Court in Surajpur.
The Lamborghini test drive in Sector 94 in Noida at high speed, ran out of control when the luxury sports car lost balance and crashed, injuring two workers in the road accident on a roundabout. The smash has raised warning bells on free-for-all driving and road safety.
The accident occurred on Sunday after the Lamborghini, which was moving at a very high speed, skidded and collided with a divider and struck two road workers. Victims Dijen Ravidas and Rambhu Kumar, both from Chhattisgarh, had their leg bones severely fractured. They were hospitalized in the local area, and their condition is reported to be stable.
The Lamborghini was driving at almost 300 km/h when it crashed, eyewitnesses said. Yet, the same has not been confirmed by the police authorities and are examining CCTV footage and the speedometer display reading on the vehicle.
The car was being driven by Deepak, a resident of Ajmer in Rajasthan, and was reportedly offering the Lamborghini a test ride. The car is registered from Pondicherry and belongs to Mridul Tiwari, a YouTuber who resides in Noida and has more than 18 million subscribers on his channel. Tiwari wasn’t present during the accident.
Deepak was picked up by the police on charges of rash driving endangering lives. The multi-crore luxury car has also been impounded during the investigation.
Footage captured by witnesses at the site of the accident reveals the driver stepping out of the dented Lamborghini and questioning witnesses for information about hurt workers. Deepak has attributed the accident to a mechanical flaw in some of the accounts.
Police are conducting a forensic inspection of the vehicle to see whether or not there was any technical malfunction of the vehicle. Police are also investigating whether or not the vehicle overspeeded, as alleged by witnesses.
This accident has again brought into focus reckless driving in the city. These high-speed cars with speeds just unimaginable are an open invitation to be let loose in uncontrolled fashion on city roads. The Noida accident calls for demanding action for stricter speed checks and good test-drive locations.
Locals and campaigners for road safety have also demanded much stricter measures be implemented so that no such similar kind of accident is ever repeated once again. “Supercars don’t need to be tested on public roads where workers and pedestrians are at risk. There needs to be strict speed limits and zones of driving,” a road safety expert added.
Police officials promised Deepak would be arrested on the charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, such as rash driving and causing harm by rash and negligent act. The victims’ relatives are demanding compensation and stronger action against the accused.
Meanwhile, the traffic police of Noida organized awareness rallies and stricter checks for speeding on city roads.
As the investigation goes on, the accident serves as a sad reminder of the danger of distracted driving, particularly in a crowded city with pedestrian paths.
