These colors were initially created using vegetable and natural dyes.

     If one didn’t color their houses, then the Portuguese would fine them as during that era, the white color was associated with Virgin Mary, and only churches and chapels would have the color white.

    Additionally, not for their appealing colors only, the visitors are also amazed with the uniquely built houses, with both Indian and European styles of architecture.

    These houses were made with a lot of profound thought behind it, to make them naturally sustainable and eco-friendly. The higher ceilings of the houses are meant to have a cooling effect, while the long windows were strategically placed to allow cross ventilation.  

    Further the teak and rosewood made furniture like chairs and almirahs are mostly carved with the owner’s name.
