The Centre has announced a major change in the application of the passport for those who are willing to apply or update their passport in the near future.

As per the document released by the Gazette of India, these rules may be called the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2025 and they shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. Under the new rule, any individual born on or after October 1, 2023, will have to present their birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Municipal Corporation as an only proof for their date of birth.

Under the revised rules, individuals born on or after October 1, 2023, will be required to present birth certificates as the sole proof of their date of birth.

The Indian passport is an important document that verifies identity, especially during international travel. Recently, the central government has revised the passport regulations for holders of Indian passports.
