In a shocking series of events, former Bangladesh Prime MinisterSheikh Hasinahas revealed some details about the alleged assassination plot against her and her sister Sheikh Rehanna after her ouster from the administration.
Rehana and I survived just 20-25 minutes apart, we escaped death, Sheikh Hasina said in an audio message posted on the Bangladesh Awami Leagues Facebook page.
Ouster of Sheikh Hasina
This is to be noted that former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power in August 2024, following a student-led revolution that resulted in widespread protests and clashes, claiming over 600 lives. The protests and outrage in the nation was driven by allegations of human rights violations and corruption during her 15-years of rule in the nation.
Revelations Made by Sheikh Hasina
Reflecting upon those tragic events, Hasina alleged that a coordinated conspiracy was plotted to eliminate her and described surviving multiple assassination attempts as a divine intervention.
I feel it is the will of Allah that I have survivedthe August 21 grenade attack, the Kotalipara bomb plot, and now this recent threat, she said emotionally, adding, Otherwise, I wouldnt be alive today.
I just feel that surviving the killings on August 21, or surviving the huge bob in Kotalipara, surviving on this time, August 5, 2025, there must be the will of Allah, a hand of Allah, the ousted PM stated, noting, although I am suffering, I am without my country, without my home, everything has been burned.
Earlier Assassination Attempts on Sheikh Hasina
Additionally, Sheikh Hasina faced heightened security due to multiple assassination attempts. One such incident took place on August 21, 2004, in Dhaka. This was a grenade attack that occurred during an anti-terrorism rally organized by the Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue. It happened at 5:22 pm after Sheikh Hasina, then the leader of the opposition, had addressed a crowd of 20,000 from the back of a truck, resulting in 24 deaths and over 500 injuries. Hasina herself sustained injuries in the attack.
