Who is the Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz?
Tim Walz, a 60-year-old man grew up in Rural Nebraska where he attended a public college and met his wife for the first time. They later relocated to Minnesota, where he became a high school social studies teacher and football coach in Mankato.
In 2006, he successfully challenged a Republican incumbent to win a rare seat in Congress for Minnesota’s First District. He joined the Army National Guard at 17 and served 24 years of service and retired as a command sergeant major.
Walz ran for the Governor post in 2018 and won the re-election in 2022. Currently, he leads the national campaign efforts for Democratic Governors. His military background stands in contrast to that of Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance, who served in the Marine Corps.

Walz served six terms in the U.S. House before being elected as a Governor in 2018. He won by over 11 percentage points from the support from urban voters and those in the Minneapolis suburbs. He successfully ran for re-election in 2022.
