He took the oath of office on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, following his party’s victory, the National Conference, in the first Assembly Elections. This marks a significant moment for the region in political history after the abrogation of Article 370.

Recently, Omar Abdullah’s oath-taking speech of 2009 and 2024 have gone viral over the Internet. It has been capturing the audience’s attention due to its notable change in words after the abrogation of Article 370.

    Abrogation of Article 370

The abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, was a landmark move by the Indian government. This article granted special autonomy to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, allowing it to have its constitution and power regarding internal affairs.

The move was aimed to integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India and promote development and stability in the region. It also led to the reorganization of the state into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

    Omar Abdullah’s Change in Speech

Omar Abdullah, the National Conference Party’s Vice President has become the first CM of Jammu and Kashmir after it has been parted into Union Territories. This is his second term as the Chief Minister. Before this, he served as the CM of the region between 2009 and 2014.

He took oath for the first time as CM in 2009, 15 years ago when the state was given a special status under Article 370.

“I, Omar Abdullah swear in the name of god that…to the constitution of state as by law established,” he was seen stating in the first half of the video, which has a clip from 2009 oath-taking.

In the second half of the video, which is an oath-taking from this year, he said, “I, Omar Abdullah, swear in the name of god that… to the constitution of India as by law establish…”

Meanwhile, the video has been making several rounds on the internet and left people with several reactions. Some users raised slogans on PM Modi, saying “Modi hai toh Mumkin Hai”. They also commended his leadership that has made this milestone possible.

    “Modi hai toh Mumkin Hai!!

2009: To Constitution of the State

2024: To the Constitution of India

A journey of bold transformations under decisive leadership!” a user said.

“The Slogan “Modi hai toh Mumkin hai” reflects a positive outlook towards India’s development and change. If Constitutional changes were possible at the state level in 2009. It highlights the potential for reforms at the national level in 2024. This milestone symbolizes a new direction and hope,” another user added.

What’s the Reason behind this Shift?

This is to be noted that, From November 1952 to October 31, 2019, J&K was governed by India as a state. Because Article 370 granted it the right to establish its own constitution, flag, and system of internal government.

On August 5, 2019, the Government of India issued a presidential order to replace the 1954 order and grant all the provisions of the Indian constitution to Jammu and Kashmir.

This decision was based on a resolution passed in both houses of the parliament by two-thirds majority.

Further, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act of 2019 was also passed in 2019 by the Parliament. Under this act, the state of Jammu and Kashmir would be bifurcated into two Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
