    Savitri Jindal to Vinesh Phogat: Haryana Welcomes 13 Women MLAs in Assembly

    This time, the Haryana Assembly elections have witnessed an unexpected turn of events. 13 women legislators were elected to the 90-member assembly on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

    Notably, this is the second time, the record has been set after the 2014 elections. The Bhartiya Janta Party and Congress parties have the most women representatives.

    According to the reports, there were a total of 1,031 candidates, including 464 independents and 101 women contesting for the Haryana Polls on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Five women candidates from the BJP and seven from the Congress party have secured victory. Some notable women candidates include Savitri Jindal and Vinesh Phogat.

    Significant Milestone for Haryana

    The election of 13 women MLA candidates is a significant milestone, reflecting the state’s shift towards women’s empowerment and gender equality.

    As Haryana is among the parts of North India traditionally considered a male-dominated society. Men are often observed holding primary powers and predominating in roles of political leadership and power. However, the Political spectrum has now changed.

    The election of women in the assembly can influence women and young girls encouraging them to actively take part in political and public affairs.

    Here’s the list of 13 women elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly:

    1. Savitri Jindal, an independent BJP candidate won from the Hisar seat
    2. Shakti Rani Sharma, BJP nominee won the Kalka seat
    3. Krishna Gahlawat, BJP leader won the Rai assembly segment
    4. Arti Singh Rao, BJP’s candidate won the Ateli seat
    5. Shruti Choudhary, a BJP Candidate won the Tosham seat
    6. Bimla Choudhary, a BJP Candidate won the Pataudi seat
    7. Wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat won the Julana seat
    8. Former Minister Geeta Bhukkal, Congress Nominee retained the Jhajjar seat
    9. Shalley Choudhary, a Congress Candidate, won the Naraingarh seat
    10. Shakuntala Khatak, Congress seat, won the Kalanaur seat
    11. Pooja, the Congress candidate, won the Mulana rut segment
    12. Renu Bala, Congress seat won the Sadhaura seat
    13. Manu Choudhary, Congress nominee won the Nangal Chaudhary seat

    Among the above-elected legislators, India’s richest woman Savitri Jindal, is the only woman to have secured victory as an independent candidate. Olympian Vinesh Phogat, triumphed over the Julana segment from Congress after retiring from wrestling earlier this year.

    Savitri Jindal, who is also the mother of Kurukshetra BJP MP Naveen Jindal, got the Hisar seat in the assembly elections.

    Apart from BJP and Congress, 11 women from the Aam Aadmi Party were contesting for the Haryana Assembly polls. None of them were able to secure a win in the state.

    Another BJP Candidate, Arti Rao is the prominent and the first MLA to join state assembly elections and secured victory from the Ateli assembly. She’s also the daughter of Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh.

    Former MP Shruti Chaudhary also joined the assembly for the first time as a BJP MLA from Tosham seat.
