The US President made the announcement on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, following Israel’s cabinet agreeing to the ceasefire deal after urging from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The deal reportedly has been effective from early Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Hezbollah has also agreed to a ceasefire deal with Israel. The deal is set to last for 60 days and is brokered by the United States. Meanwhile, Israel has also asked for the right to act if Hezbollah attempts to violate the deal, while Lebanon has opposed the provision.

However, in a recent statement, President Joe Biden announced that both parties have agreed to a ceasefire. “Today, I have some good news to report for the Middle East. I just spoke with the prime minister of Israel and Lebanon. Pleased to announce that their government has accepted the United States proposal to end the devastating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. I want to thank President Emmanuel Macron of France for his partnership in reaching this moment,” President Biden said.

This ceasefire deal went into effect earlier on Wednesday, at 4 am (as per the local time), across the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Does Biden fail to apply a deal in Gaza?

US President Biden, while announcing the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hezbollah, has said that the ceasefire does not apply to the ongoing crises between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

The war between Israel and Gaza began last year on October 7 after Hamas carried out an attack on Southern Israel. The attack claimed 1200 lives and thousands injured. The attack has been continuing to rage.

Biden said that the people of Gaza deserve an end to the fighting and displacement as Israeli strikes continue on that beleaguered territory.

While the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has also assured us that he will achieve victory over Gaza and bring back the hostages to their homes. “I promised victory to you, and we will achieve victory. We will complete the destruction of Hamas. We will make sure that Gaza will no longer be a threat. And we will bring back the residents of the north to their homes. The war will not finish until we reach all of these goals, including until we bring all the residents of the north home,” Netanyahu added.
