What Happened in Lebanon and Syria? The Dark Side of Communication Devices: Are the Smartphones Next?

    Read Later
It is in the context of "Pagers, Smartphones, and more communication devices" exploded in Lebanon and Syria killing more than 12, and wounding 3000, out of which 200 are critical.

14 more got killed, and more than 450 were wounded in the latest device explosions.

Jalandhar: It is very urgent to understand that an Adjunct instructor at the Center for Global Affairs in New York University’s School of Professional Studies-Nicholas Reese has recently explained that the smartphones lying inside the pockets of every one of us certainly carry a higher risk for intercepted communications in contrast to the simpler technology of pagers, those exploded recently to cause havoc.

In the first attack, nearly 14 were killed, wounding 3000 and about 200 critically. In the next, 14 more were killed, and more than 450 others were injured in the latest device explosions.

Nothing is good or bad in this world only thinking makes it so. The evil mind has evil designs. Many more such maxims come to mind while thinking about recent pagers’ and other communication device explosions in war-struck areas of Lebanon and Syria.

In the context of “Pagers”, it is learnt that the exploded devices were from a new brand that the Hezbollah group had not used before; however, the identification of the brand name or supplier was not clarified immediately.

In a remote attack, the pagers used by hundreds of members of Hezbollah exploded almost simultaneously in Lebanon and Syria. It is also known that small amounts of explosives secreted in the pagers were detonated. Now, the survivors of these explosions are likely to throw away “not just their pagers, but their phones, and leaving their tablets or other electronic devices.

The Iran-backed militant group blamed Israel for the deadly explosions, which targeted maximum people and showed signs of being a long-planned operation. Details on how the attack was executed are largely uncertain and investigators have not immediately said how the pagers were detonated.

It has also been noted that a Hezbollah leader had already warned the group’s members not to carry cellphones, as he feared these to be used by the enemies to track the group’s movements. As a result, “Pagers” were being used to communicate.

Now, as per a news agency, a Taiwanese company “Gold Apollo” had authorised the use of its brand on the AR-924 pager model and a Budapest (Hungary) based company, called BAC Consulting, produced and sold the pagers.

Gold Apollo Co., Ltd. has established a long-term partnership with BAC CONSULTING KFT. (SZONYI UT 33/A., 1142 BUDAPEST, HU, hereinafter referred to as “BAC”). According to the cooperation agreement, we authorize BAC to use our brand trademark for product sales in designated regions, but the design and manufacturing of the products are solely the responsibility of BAC. Regarding the AR-924 pager model mentioned in the recent media reports, we clarify that this model is produced and sold by BAC.

Our company only provides the brand trademark authorization and is not involved in the design or manufacturing of this product. Gold Apollo Co., Ltd. always complies with relevant regulations and maintains transparent and compliant partnerships with our collaborators.

Statement from GOLD APOLLO CO., LTD.

It is claimed that it would take a long time to plan an attack of this scale. The exact specifics are still unknown, but experts who spoke with the AP shared estimates ranging from several months to two years. One of three experts holds that “the pagers functioned perfectly for six months. What triggered the explosion, appears to be an error message sent to all the devices.”

Reports say that Hezbollah purchased all the communication devices from a European shell company owned by Israel.

In the latest row, Hezbollah vows to punish Israel after pager explosions across Lebanon and calls it the biggest security breach in war with Israel, where Hezbollah fighters are among those killed., the group says.

Today (September 18th, 2024), the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Herzi Halevi, held a situational assessment at the Northern Command with members of the General Staff Forum, and approved offensive and defensive plans for the northern arena.

“We are very determined to create the security conditions that will return the residents to their homes, to the communities, with a high level of security, and we are ready to do all that is required to bring about these things. Throughout the war for almost a year, we have been fighting in Gaza with two main goals, as well as others – dismantling Hamas and returning the hostages. We have achieved a lot, and we still have further forward to go.

We still have many capabilities that we have not yet activated. We saw some of these things here, and it seems to me that the readiness is good and we are preparing these plans going forward. The rule is that every time we work on a certain stage, the next two stages are already ready to advance. At each stage, the price for Hezbollah must be high.”

Here, it is necessary to mention about great scientist and philanthrope, Alfred Nobel. He was very interested in social and peace-related issues and held what were considered radical views in his era. He had a great interest in literature and wrote his own poetry and dramatic works. The Nobel Prizes became an extension and a fulfillment of his lifetime interests.

After his return to Sweden in 1863, he concentrated on developing nitroglycerine as an explosive. Several explosions, including one (1864) in which his brother Emil and several other persons were killed, convinced the authorities that nitroglycerine production was exceedingly dangerous. Alfred was not discouraged and he was soon able to start mass production of nitroglycerine, and afterward patented for “ DYNAMITE”. It reduced the cost of blasting rock, drilling tunnels, building canals, and many other forms of construction work.

Over the years he founded factories and laboratories in some 90 different places in more than 20 countries. By the time of his death in 1896, he had 355 patents. When he wrote his final will it included a Prize for persons or organizations who promoted peace. Several years after the death of Alfred Nobel, the Norwegian Storting (Parliament) decided to award the 1905 Nobel Peace Prize to an Austrian woman Bertha von Suttner, who was increasingly critical of the arms race. She had written a famous book, “Lay Down Your Arms” and became a prominent figure in the peace movement.

Here, this special mention of Alfred Nobel is to alert and lead conflicting countries including Russia, Ukraine, Israel, and others to bring peace to the world to be happy and progressive all around. Alfred Nobel’s greatness lay in his ability to combine the penetrating mind of the scientist and inventor with forward-looking dynamism.
