    Cold Wave Likely to be Seen in Northern Parts of India over Next Few Days

    The parts of North India are expected to witness cold waves and fog with the new year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast. The temperature is likely to fall three to four degrees at night in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan in the next three days.

    “Cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana during Tuesday, December 31, to Thursday, January 2, 2024,” IMD said. It also said dense fog and cold wave warnings for the year-end and New Year’s Day.

    The IMD reports have also stated that the severe cold wave conditions are likely in a few pockets of Himachal Pradesh, with cold wave conditions in isolated pockets of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

    Though there will be mostly clear skies during the day, the region’s maximum (day) temperatures are expected to range between 12-16°C. While in the plains, a cold wave is considered when the minimum temperature of 10 °C or less is recorded which is at least 4.5° C below normal.

    Temperature Likely to Fall in Uttar Pradesh

    The temperature of Uttar Pradesh is likely to fall in minimum temperatures by 4 to 6 °C for the next five days. According to the reports, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from January 6, 2026, causing rainfall over the Western Himalayan region.

    Gradual Temperature Falling Expected Over Next Few Days

    The other parts of the country are also expected to see a gradual fall in temperature during the period of the next three to five days.

    The Indian Meteorological Department also predicted a fall in minimum temperature by 3 to 5 °C  over central India during the next five days, from Tuesday onwards. The East India is also likely to fall in minimum temperature by 3 to 4° C during the next three days from Tuesday. While the temperature in Maharashtra may see a fall in minimum temperatures by 2 to 4° over the next five days.
