Ever since Trump has been sworn in as the President, he has been signing various executive orders for them to be implemented. On Wednesday, he signed an executive order banning transgender Athletes from entering Women’s sports He emphasized, “With this executive order the war on Women’s sports is over”
Order Signed at The White House
Trump signed an executive order that bans transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports. While signing the order at the white house he said, “From now on women’s sports will be only for women.”
The signing ceremony consisted of top Republicans such as US House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Congresswoman Marjorie Green, and was also joined by female athletes and children. The people present there applauded when he said ” We will defend the proud tradition of female athletes, and we will not allow men to beat up, injure, and cheat our women and our girls.”
What Is this New Order?
The order titled ” Keeping Men out of Women’s Sports” gives federal agencies wide latitude to ensure entities that receive federal funding abide by Title IX in alignment with the Trump administration’s view, which states that ” Sex ” is the gender someone is assigned by birth.
The order also allows US government agencies to cut funding to those schools that allow transgender athletes to compete in Women’s sports. Regarding this Trump said, “If you let men take over women’s sports teams or invade your locker rooms, you will be investigated and risk your federal funding.”
Push For IOC to Change the Rules
While speaking at the signing ceremony, Trump also said that he would insist International Olympic Committee to change its rules of including transgender athletes in the Olympics before the 2028 Los Angeles games. He stated that the Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been directed to do the needful for them to change the rules.
Additionally, Trump has also ordered Homeland Security Chief Kristi Neom to deny Visas to those individuals who falsely identify as women athletes to enter the US for the games.
The White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also stated that the order will uphold the promise mentioned in Title IX and immediate actions will be taken against schools and athletic associations that do not provide single-sex sports or locker rooms for women.
Various Orders Signed Related to Gender Identity
Trump after resuming office has signed various executive orders related to gender identity. At his inauguration, Trump strictly mentioned that the US government would recognize only two genders, Male and female ending the option for a third gender.
Another order removed Transgender ideology from the military effectively banning transgender troops from joining the military. One more order restricted gender transition procedures for individuals under the age of 19.
During the 2024 election campaigns, Trump has frequently criticized Democrats for supporting transgender community. He popularly used the Phrase “Kamala Harris is for they/ them but Trump is for you”, referring to her support for transgender rights. He also mentioned her previous support for gender reassignment procedures for prisoners.
This executive order is the follow-up of a bill passed in January by the Republican-led House of Representatives, banning transgender athletes from participating in Women’s sports This order was issued on National Girls and Women in Sports Day and this is the latest exertive order signed by Trump on Transgender issues.
