Shubhanshu Shukla: A Distinguished Career in Aerospace
Born on October 10, 1985, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Shubhanshu Shukla has an impressive aviation background. His exemplary service and leadership in combat and test piloting led to his promotion to Group Captain in March 2024.
In 2019, Shukla embarked on a rigorous astronaut training at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Moscow, under the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) Gaganyaan program. On February 27, 2024, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially announced him as one of the astronauts preparing for India’s maiden human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan, scheduled for launch in 2025.
His journey made India the 14th country to send a person to space.

Commander Peggy Whitson (USA) – A former NASA astronaut and director of human spaceflight at Axiom Space, Whitson is America’s most experienced astronaut, having spent 675 days in space.
Mission Specialist Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski (Poland) – A former CERN engineer and ESA astronaut reserve member, he brings expertise in scientific research and exploration.
Mission Specialist Tibor Kapu (Hungary) – A mechanical engineer specializing in space radiation protection, Kapu is part of Hungary’s HUNOR astronaut program.
