Shubman Gill’s Gritty Ton Shines as India Clinches First Opener, All Eyes on Sunday Thriller

    Read Later

Yesterday’s Champions trophy saw India play against Bangladesh with Bangladesh choosing to bat first. Rohit Sharma said that he would have chosen to field first as he thinks this ground has a good pitch in Dubai.  The match started with Bangladesh batting on the first basis

    Bangladesh Start the Game

The first players to bat for Bangladesh were Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar. They had to face the ball of Mohammed Shami who returns to the Champions Trophy, after taking a short break. Mohammed Shami took a wicket in the second ball and Soumya Sarkar got out at 1/1. By the end of two overs, two wickets were taken by the Indian team. Virat Kohli’s simply caught the captain of the Bangladesh team.

The match took an interesting turn. If Mohammed Shami took two more wickets he would reach 200 wickets in the ODI  matches he has played so far. Ravindra Jadeja who is also back in the play, has been playing his 200th ODI match this time. Another interesting fact was that if India wins the trophy this time and two more times, it would be clinching the cup 20 times, as it has already won 18 times. It would be a proud moment for the Indian team and their fans.

The Game Got Tough For Bangladesh

As the match continued Shubman Gill got a catch, and Mohammed Shami took a second wicket. This made Mehidy Hasan Miraz get out in the seventh over at 26/3. Then comes Towhid Hridoy to ace up the match Spinner Axar Patel was bought in to give tough balls to the batters. The first wicket fell for Axar Patel was successful in clinching the first wicket as Tanzid got out with KL Rahul showing exemplary fielding skills. Then Rahim also got out. Then entered Jaker Ali. The match got tough for Bangladesh after the completion of 8 overs.

Amazing Partnership Between Hridoy And Ali

When nothing was working in favor of Bangladesh, Jaker Ali and Hridoy stood up for the team and changed the game by continuously playing and getting a 30-run score through their strong partnership. The Indian fielders also missed some easy catches giving jittery moments to the fans. Hardik Pandya dropped a simple catch off the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav. Towhid Hridoy tried to go over the mid-off but did not get the elevation, the ball went straight to Hardik Pandya. But the all-rounder dropped it.

Both the batters gave their best continuously maintaining their partnership for a 100-run stand, each scoring 50 runs. This took Bangladesh to score 100 runs in 35 overs. The duo successfully scored 228 runs for the team before Jaker Ali got out because of Virat’s catch. This made Shami to get the 200th wicket in his innings.

Rahid Hossain and Yanzid Hasan got out one after the other and Bangladesh scored 228, making 229 runs as the target for India to win the match. Hridoy got serious cramps after the heavy match and the physio was present on the ground to give him treatments. Harshid Rana took the wicket of Toewid Hridoy after he scores a century in this game

    India Starts Playing

The first bowler to open the attack for Bangladesh was Taskin Ahmed with Rohit Sharma and Shubnam Gill entering as the opening batsman. Rohit Sharma played the captain’s innings and got 41 runs in just 8 overs, thus proving once again that he is still in form for the game. Next came  Tanzid Hasan to bowl and he also could not do any wonders. Both the batters continued their game with the fire they had. They got 65 runs in 9 overs.

Rohit Sharma got out at 41 runs at the hands of Tanzid which makes the Indian team and audience sad. Next comes everyone’s favorite Virat Kohli on the ground. Though both players started slow they didn’t let India lose wickets maintaining a score of  97/1 at the end of 19 overs.  Again, it’s a bad time as Virat Kohli gets out at 22 runs. This is a really big wicket for Bangladesh as both opening batsmen got out on very less runs

    India Survives

With Shreyas Iyer entering to join Shubhman Gill, they played in good spirits earning 122 runs in 25 overs. As the fans are happy about the improvements Shreyas got out by the ball of the Bangladesh team’s captain at 133/3. Next Axar Patel joined, and he also got out in a simple catch. Then came KL Rahul to again turn the game in the favor of India. KL Rahul and Shubhman Gill established a strong partnership and scored 186 runs in 39 overs. India gets 200 runs by the 43rd over with Shubhman Gill scoring a century this time KL Rahul finished in style with a six as India opened their account with a six-wicket win.

Though India started slow, it soon picked up the pace after Shubnman Gill entered making him the Man of the Match and this victory is also one of the interesting victories India has made in the Champion’s Trophy.
