Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has landed in the hot tub of controversies. The cricketer has been accused in relation to the Provident Fund (PF) case. Uthappa, the director of Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Private Limited might get arrested for allegedly deducting PF contributions from employees’ salaries but failing to deposit the funds into their accounts. As per the reports, he is said to be involved in defrauding both the employees and the government.
Robin Uthappa Accused in PF Fraud Case
The warrant was issued by Shadakshara Gopal Reddy, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner – II and Recovery Officer, KR Puram in Bengaluru.In his order dated December 4, Reddy stated that Rs 23.36 lakh is to be recovered from Uthappa, the defaulter, as he is the director of Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd. Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Private Limited is a clothing themed brand situation in Bengaluru. Reportedly, the company is liable for INR 23.36 lakh in damages. The authorities are now working to recover this amount from Uthappa.
What the Warrant says?
The warrant reads, “This is to inform you that TK Krishna Das, the director of M/S Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd (EST Code (PY/KRP/1524922), located at HAL Second Stage in Indiranagar, has failed to remit damages under sections 7A, 14B, and 7Q of the Employees’ Provident Funds (EPF) and Miscellaneous Provisions (MP) Act, 1952, amounting to Rs 23,36,602, which includes Rs 6,550 towards recovery.” The statement further adds, “You are, therefore, kindly requested to execute the enclosed warrant of arrest for Robin Uthappa, director of the above establishment, through the Thana in charge under whose jurisdiction the employer resides.”
Robin Uthappa Not Found at His Residence
Following the arrest warrant, the Karnataka Police visited Uthappa’s Bengaluru residence in Pulakeshinagar. However, to their surprise to come to know that the cricketer no longer resides there. The former India player has been residing in Dubai with his family for over a year. According to Gulf News, he relocated to Dubai permanently in early 2023 after obtaining a Golden Visa.
What is Uthappa’s Take on this?
Following the news, Uthappa finally broke his silence through his social media platform. Uthappa cleared that he had resigned from his directorship in Strawberry Lencería Pvt. Ltd., Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt. Ltd., and Berryz Fashion House several years ago. He stated that he never held an active executive role and was not involved in the day-to-day operations of these companies.
