Ahead of the Assembly Elections 2024, Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal announced to provide free health facilities to the people aged above 60 on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. The people in Delhi would be given treatment under Prime Minister Sanjivni Yojana in both state-run and private hospitals if the party comes into power in 2025.
The Prime Minister Sanjivni Yojana is a healthcare initiative that promises free medical treatment for senior citizens aged 60. This initiative aims to cover all medical expenses without any income or socio-economic restrictions. Any senior citizen having a Delhi voter ID is eligible for the scheme, the party added. There will be no limit to the expenses.

While announcing the scheme, Arvind Kejriwal said, “It’s my responsibility to ensure the health of every elderly person in Delhi. In return, all we seek is their blessings.”
“We have the utmost respect for our elders. It is because of you that we exist today. You are the ones who have brought our nation to where it is today… Now in your old age. It becomes the duty of your children to take care of you,” he noted.
Previous Scheme by Arvind Kejriwal
Kejriwal mentioned that earlier the party had successfully launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana.” This initiative was launched on January 8, 2018, by the Delhi Cabinet. It claimed that about 1 lakh people so far have undertaken pilgrimages to various parts of the country. These destinations include Rameswaram, Shirdi Baba, Ajmer Sharif, Ayodhya, Mathura-Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Jagannath Puri, and Dwarkadhish. The Delhi Government has borne the expenses under the scheme.
Kejriwal said that under the Prime Minister Sanjivni scheme, senior citizens above 60 will get free treatment in government and private hospitals. The entire cost of the treatment will be borne by the Delhi Government. There will be no limit on these expenses. The registration of the scheme will begin within the next 2-3 days.
“AAP Volunteers will visit your home. Complete your registration and provide you with a card. Keep this card safe. Once our government is formed, this card shall be passed, and your son will take full responsibility for keeping you healthy in your old age,” he added.
“In return, I only seek your blessings—bless me, bless the people of Delhi, bless the country, and bless the world,” he asserted.
Additionally, Kejriwal also announced the scheme via his official X handle. “The elders of Delhi have always considered me as their son. Today I am going to fulfill my duty. If AAP wins, all citizens of Delhi will get free treatment under the Sanjivani Yojana. Whether the hospital is government or private, whatever the cost of treatment. Now the care of the elderly is my responsibility,” he noted.
AAP Leader Manish Sisodia on the Sanjivni Scheme
AAP leader and former deputy chief Manish Sisodia also emphasized that this is not just a scheme, but a promise of respect and a better life for our elders.
What did Chief Minister Atishi say?
Chief Minister Atishi Marlena also applauded the initiative while sharing it with people, “A son should be like Arvind Kejriwal. First, he became a Shravan Kumar for Delhi by arranging pilgrimages for over 1 lakh elders. Now he introduced the Sanjivni scheme for the well-being of the elderly,” she wrote on her official X handle.
