Satyendra Garg, a former IPS officer with experience as Joint Commissioner (Traffic) in Delhi, believes that thorough investigations and proactive measures can significantly lower the number of road deaths. At a recent conference focusing on new trends and technologies in road and bridge construction, Minister Gadkari highlighted the severe consequences of road accidents on society. He noted that nearly 60% of fatalities occur among individuals aged 18 to 34. The socio-economic cost of road accidents is approximately 3% of India’s GDP, highlighting the critical need for prompt intervention.
Gadkari urged all stakeholders to take road safety issues seriously, investigate accidents, and rectify hazardous locations. He stated, “Deal with road safety issues sensitively, investigate accidents, fix dangerous places, and address issues. We have never lost so many people even in wars.”
