In a gruesome incident in Punjab’s Jalandhar, a 65-year-old woman sustained severe injuries after a group of seven to eight stray dogs brutally attacked and bit her. Notably, the elderly woman was walking alone and returning from Gurudwara when the incident happened. The video of the whole incident has been captured on CCTV.

The video shows that the woman was walking alone through a locality after returning from Gurudwara when a pack of seven or eight feral dogs gathered and attacked her so violently that she fell down on the ground. For some time, the woman defended herself, using the shawl she wore. However, the dogs then dragged her along the street and started attacking her again.

    Details about the Incident

The incident took place in broad daylight in DD Enclave Phase 2, near the Satguru Kabir Chowk. The woman was continuously crying in for help, but no one came. After a while, two men in the locality rushed to rescue the scene after being alarmed by the shouts, and the dogs dispersed.

Meanwhile, the woman got 25 dog bite injuries, including a serious injury on her head. The woman is currently admitted to the Civil Hospital of Jalandhar City.

According to her husband, a young man was resting in the sun who saw her being attacked by dogs. He immediately reached the spot to scare them off. He said that two more men arrived at the scene and took the elderly woman to her home, after which she was admitted to the hospital.

    Reactions on the Internet

The CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on the internet, igniting questions over the security of residents and increased cases of dog bites in the localities. While some people were also shocked that no one had even come out of their homes to help.

“No one hears anything, and no one comes out to see/help? I was born in Jalandhar sad to see this. If I had been there and awake, I would have checked. Stray dogs should be either adopted or put down,” a user noted.

“Every minute on our streets is a battle for survival. You gotta be happy if you reach home safely,” another user noted.

“Stray dogs must be killed, Punjab government must pass the laws… Where is Maneka Gandhi??”, the third user reacted.
