    Horrific Flood Tragedy Claims Nine Lives in Jejo Village Accident

    A rivulet washed away a car in Jejo village of Hoshiarpur, resulting in the loss of nine lives. Two people have gone missing.

    In the flood in Punjab, a car carrying wedding guests was washed away. Members of the wedding party are from the Himachal Pradesh village of Dehla in the Una district. They were traveling to a wedding in Mahalpur , in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. The strong water flow caused about ten people and the car to be washed away.  

    The incident happened in Jaijon village, on the border between HP and Punjab, while the driver of a Toyota Innova was navigating a seasonal stream.  
     
    The victims were from the Una district’s Dehla and Bhatoli villages. Surjit, Parmajeet Kaur, Saroop Chand, Bindar, Shano, Bhawana, Anju, Dipak, and Harmeet were named among the deceased.  
     
    Himachal Pradesh’s chief minister Sukhvinder Sukhu and deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri have expressed their deep sorrow over the accident’s high death toll.

    Leaders Express Condolences

     CM Sukhu tweeted, “The news of about 9 people, residents of Dehlan village of Una district, becoming victims of an accident due to strong water flow near Jejo (Himachal-Punjab border) is extremely sad.  

    I am in touch with the local administration. Relief and rescue operations are underway. Instructions have been given to provide all possible assistance to the affected families. 

    May God grant peace to the departed souls and give courage to the bereaved family in this difficult time.”  

    Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri posted “Today, 9 people have died and two are reported missing after an INNOVA car HP12J – 2142 got washed away due to heavy floods in Punjab’s Jejo adjoining Haroli assembly constituency, one was saved by the people on the spot.

    These people were going to a wedding and were said to be from Dehala and surrounding areas of Una district.  

    Officials were sent immediately to the spot as soon as information about the incident was received.

    Search and rescue operations are continuing. We are very sorry about this incident.”
