According to IMD, this significant drop in temperature has been caused by a weather pattern, a western disturbance forming over the Himalayas. The temperature is expected to fall by another 2-3 degrees Celsius in the following days.

    Districts with Orange Alert

Further, an orange alert has also been issued in some districts of Punjab, including Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, Faridkot, and Moga. While a yellow alert has been issued in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Fazilka, Rupnagar, Patiala, and Mohali.

    IMD’s Warning

This prolonged exposure to cold weather conditions might lead to health illnesses like flu, runny or blocked nose, and even nosebleeds, etc. Therefore, the Indian Meteorological Department has advised residents not to ignore shivering. Because it’s an early sign of the body losing heat. In some cases, the exposure to cold weather conditions may result in frostbite. Its symptoms include pale, numb skin, black blisters on fingers, toes, and earlobes, etc.

The residents are also instructed to limit their travel and stay indoors as much as possible. They have also been urged to wear appropriate clothes and cover themselves.
