    India and Australia Boost Educational Ties as Australia Becomes the First Country to Establish a Foreign Campus in India

    Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan is visiting Australia to boost the ties in the educational sector. During his meeting with the Australian counterpart Jason Clare, Pradhan noted that cooperation in education is the fulcrum of the India-Australia relationship.

    During the meeting, many discussions took place to enhance knowledge, leverage technology to focus on global issues, and generate infinite opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship for students.

    Pradhan attended the International Educational Conference held in Melbourne, Australia. During the conference, Pradhan mentioned the establishment of Australian University Campuses in India and the potential of the two nations.

    Australia is the first country to establish a foreign campus in India. The country has recently opened the branch of its Deakin University in GIFT City, Gujarat. The University will give the chance to students to pursue Master of Business Analytics and Master of Cybersecurity (Professional).

    In the bilateral meeting, Clare focused on the value of a good education system that can change many lives. Adding to his part he said by 2035, one in four people around the world will get their university degree in India.

    • According to an official statement, the meeting underlined the bridging of strong links between Indian and Australian higher education institutions. The ministers agreed to enrich the partnership to establish more foreign branches to give rise to the technologies.
    • Pradhan took to his social media X and posted, “The establishment of Australian university campuses in India is just the beginning–there’s much more that can be accomplished. Together, we can advance knowledge, leverage tech for global challenges, and create endless opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship for our students.”
    • In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Indian Union Minister said that education must assist achievers to become managers and creators of technology. “India’s National Education Policy (NEP) provides a framework that focuses on digital literacy, soft skills, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary studies to adapt to evolving job markets,” he added.
    • The preliminary step is to transition India’s education system into a competency-based framework emphasizing skill-based education as mentioned in NEP 2020. The minister also affirmed that as a ‘Vishwa-Bandhu, “India is determined to be a reliable partner in human-centric development. The aim is to nurture global citizens, contributing to a brighter future for the next generation.”

    The Indian minister is on two-week visit to Singapore and Australia. During his Australia tour, he visited South Melbourne Primary School and engaged with younger learners. There he explored the innovative approaches that reflect how NEP 2020 (National Education Policy) is crucial to polishing a child’s holistic development.

    He also had the chance to visit the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). The institute is a hotspot of technology, design, and enterprise. At RMIT, Pradhan saw the institute’s med-tech facility, “Discovery to Device.” This facility provides vision to the ideas and showcases the process journey.

    A Gift from Jason Clare

    Jason Clare, Education Minister of Australia gifted a jersey of number 20 with Pradhan’s name.

    Clare also shared a video on his X showing Dharmendra Pradhan with the jersey, with the caption “Mateship and Maitri!”
