In a controversy evoked between India and Pakistan, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally broken its long silence over Indian cricket team’s jersey for the Champions Trophy 2025.
BCCI has confirmed that the Indian cricket team’s jersey for the Champions Trophy 2025 will feature the official tournament logo, which includes the host nation’s name, Pakistan.
This decision has been aligned with the decision of ICC’s (International Cricket Council) guidelines for the participating teams. The Champions Trophy 2025 was earlier scheduled to be held in Pakistan singularly, but after India’s refusal to travel to the country, Rohit Sharma and other contestants, the matches were shifted to Dubai.
Initially, the reports claimed that BCCI is not keen to use the logo of Pakistan- the host country, saying that the Indian team will be playing its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai. the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials has expressed concerns over the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) alleged decision of not sending India captain Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for the opening ceremony of the Champions Trophy 2025.
Notably, the Opening ceremony of the ICC (International Cricket Council) is scheduled to begin on February 19.
Cricketer Rohit Sharma was expected to attend the customary captains’ photo shoot and the pre-event press conference in Pakistan.
The BCCI requested the ICC to shift these pre-tournament events to Dubai, where India will play all their matches, including the clash against Pakistan on February 23. This move has been taken by the Indian Board amid the security concerns of the Indian players.
PCB Expresses Disappointment
Meanwhile, this decision has led to mixed reactions from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The members of PCB have been expressing their disappointment over the handling of certain protocols by the BCCI (Board of Control of Cricket in India).
A PCB official further conveyed his disappointment over the recent circulated reports that the Indian team would not wear Pakistan’s name on their tournament jersey.
“The BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don’t want to send their captain to Pakistan for the opening ceremony. Now there are reports that they don’t want the host Pakistan name on their printed jerseys. We believe that the world governing body (ICC) will not let this happen and support Pakistan,” a PCB official told the news agency IANS on condition of anonymity.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia rejected speculation
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has firmly denied any reports suggesting that the Board objected to having Pakistan’s name on the Indian team’s jersey for the Champions Trophy 2025. He confirmed that the Indian team will adhere to all ICC guidelines, including featuring the host nation’s name on their jerseys. “BCCI will follow every uniform-related ICC rule during Champions Trophy. Whatever the other teams will do regarding the logo and dress code, we are going to follow in true letter and spirit,” he added.
India Refuses to Wear Official Logo of Pakistan
This is to be noted that if India does not wear the official logo of the host (Pakistan), this will be a breach of ICC’s official clothing code.
ICC’s Rules for Clothing
As per the ICC’s rules, it also suggested that it is customary for the participating teams to feature the host nation’s name on their jersey even if the tournament is being held elsewhere.
