    India Reaching Semi-Finals? Beats Sri Lanka by 82-Runs in T20 World Cup

    The Indian Cricket Team has soared to victory against Sri Lanka, in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian Women overcame Sri Lanka with a substantial margin of 82 runs. This victory marked a successive comeback by Team India after their loss against New Zealand in the first match held on Friday, October 4th, 2024.

    India’s Net Run Rate (NRR) now is 0.576. It stands just after Australia and England, securing the top spots, with an NRR of 1.234 and 0.987, respectively.

    This boost came following India’s dominant performance over Sri Lanka. It posted a score of 172 for 3 in 20 overs. While the opponent, Sri Lanka struggled against India’s bowling and were bowled out, making 90 runs in 19.5 overs.

    The match was held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. India won the toss and chose to bat first.

    India’s Impressive Batting against Sri Lanka

    Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana were standout performers. They played a crucial role in making India win, with their half-centuries.

    Harmanpreet Kaur scored an unbeaten 52 runs off just 27 balls, including 8 fours and 1 six. She was awarded the player of the match.

    Smriti Mandhana scored 50 runs off 38 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six.

    Further, Shafali Verma scored a successive 43 runs off 40 balls, hitting 4 fours. Jemimah Rodrigues added a quick 16 runs off 10 balls.

    India’s Exceptional Bowling

    On the bowling front, India’s Deepti Sharma took the last wicket and paused the opponent at 90 for all out. Anjali Reddy and Arundhati Shobhana took 3 wickets each, giving 19 runs. Radha Thakur took 2 wickets, giving 16 balls. Shikha Patil and Deepti Sharma took a single wicket each, giving 15 and 16 runs respectively.

    Sri Lanka’s bowlers had a tough time against India’s impressive batting during the first lineup of the match. Despite putting in their hard efforts, they failed to prevent team India from scoring a total of 172 for 3.

    However, the team’s struggle continued with the bat in the second innings. Chasing the target of 173, the team was bowled out at 90 in 19.5 overs. Kavisha Dilhari was the top scorer with 2s1 runs off 22 balls. Anushka Sanjeewani contributed 20 runs off 22 balls. Ama Kanchana added 19 runs off 22 balls.

    India and Sri Lanka way to Semi-Finals?

    At the moment India is well-placed to reach the semifinals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team is currently in second place in Group A with 4 points after three games for 2 and 1 loss. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, is in trouble. Eventually, they lost all of the matches. They stand at the bottom of group A with 0 points and a net run rate of -2.564. This means that their chances of making it to the semifinals are very less.
