    Read Later

India and China have reached an agreement to restart the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which has been suspended since 2020, as per a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs. This decision came after discussions between Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi were held.

India and China also expressed their willingness to restart direct flights and to encourage closer people-to-people interactions, particularly among media professionals and think tanks.

The MEA statement added that the two sides will complete 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China in 2025.

Both sides will also organize various events to celebrate the anniversary, MEA added.

    The Holy Pilgrimage

The pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar in Tibetan region of China is considered holy by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. The lake is sacred in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon religion. People from India, China, Nepal and other countries in the region undertake a pilgrimage to the region. The pilgrimage generally involves trekking towards Lake Manasarovar and a circumambulation of the nearby Mount Kailash.

Age recommendation to pursue Kailash Yatra as per statutory guidelines are 10-70 years.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a difficult journey in which the pilgrims endure high altitude, rugged terrain, and changing weather conditions. The trek includes difficult ascents and descents, especially throughout Mount Kailash’s 52-kilometer circumambulation.

The Kailash Mansarovar Lake or Mansarovar Jheel is regarded as deeply pious and sacred. Drinking the holy water of Lake Mansarovar during the Manasa Sarovara Yatra is said to grant redemption for the sins committed. It is done through the blessings of Lord Shiva.

During this period, the weather is relatively mild, with daytime temperatures ranging between 5°C and 20°C, making the trek around Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar more pleasant and manageable.

    The Sacred Mountain

In fact, Mount Kailash has a relatively lower peak than Mt. Everest but has remained unclimbed.

It’s possible that the magnetic field here is to blame. The magnetic force here can sometimes meet the sky and produce such wonders.

Kailash situated at 22,000 feet. Gender caste or creed or color doesn’t matter. It is magical, full of positive energy and be it women or men or groups or solo journeys one would find a lot of companions during the journey to Kailash.

In fact, Foreign Secretary Misri was on a two-day visit to Beijing from January 26 to 27, 2025, to review bilateral relations.” In this context, the two sides decided to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in the summer of 2025; the relevant mechanism will discuss the modalities for doing so as per existing agreements,” MEA statement said. They also agreed to hold an early meeting of the India-China Expert Level Mechanism to discuss resumption of provision of hydrological data and other cooperation pertaining to trans-border rivers.”

“The two sides took stock of the extant mechanisms for functional exchanges.
