Since the pandemic, the Hindi film industry has seen a surge in remakes, a trend that continues to this day. While the plots of these remakes are often updated to reflect current trends, many of them fail to recreate the magic of the original films. Although some remakes, like Kabir Singh and Drishyam 2, have been massive hits with Hindi audiences, many others have struggled to make an impact. Loveyapa appears to be one of those films that hasn’t quite left a mark.
Loveyapa, a Hindi remake of the 2022 hit Love Today, was directed by Advait Chandan and released on February 7, 2025. The film, starring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, earned INR 0.50 crore on its first Tuesday. According to Sacnilk, the film’s India net collection after its first five days in theatres stands at INR 5.60 crore.
Storyline of Loveyapa
The film follows two individuals who believe their relationship is strong and that they know everything about each other. When the hero approaches the heroine’s father for marriage, the father sets a condition: they must exchange phones for one night and come back the next day with the same mindset, and the marriage will be approved. The couple agrees, exchanging their phones. As they go through each other’s devices, they uncover hidden secrets. The story then explores whether their love can survive after learning these truths.
Loveyapa Review
The reviews for Loveyapa are mixed, with some positive feedback, though the film does have its shortcomings. One major issue is that the film attempts to tackle too many themes at once. A more focused storyline, exploring infidelity from both Gaurav and Baani’s perspectives, could have made for a more engaging, heartfelt rom-com.
The film also had the potential to explore the contrasting online experiences of a 24-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man. While the man “pretends to be single” online, the woman faces death threats and harassment. This could have been a timely commentary on the digital world, but the film brushes past it too quickly, shifting focus to the next plot point.
The chemistry between the lead pair, Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, is lacking. Junaid, who impressed in his debut Maharaj, struggles to fit into the rom-com hero role, while Khushi Kapoor performs better by infusing freshness of her persona into her character. However, much of her role in the second half of the film is limited to shouting and expressing frustration, with only about 10 minutes of screen time allowing her to show any real depth or range.
Loveyapa Box Office Collection
The film’s opening day collection fell short of the INR 2 crore mark. However, the relatability of its content, fast-paced screenplay, and realistic portrayal of relationships resonated with the current generation. As a result, the film’s box office collection grew from INR 1.15 crore on Friday to INR 1.65 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, it maintained its momentum with INR 1.75 crore in earnings.
Unfortunately, the weekend success did not carry over into the weekdays. On Monday, the business dropped significantly to INR 0.55 crore, marking a 68.57% decline compared to Sunday’s earnings. Early estimates for Tuesday’s collection indicate a further dip, with the film earning only INR 0.50 crore.
