A new player has entered the political scenario in Punjab. Staunch Khalistan vocalist and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s regional political party has been unveiled in Punjab. ‘Waris Punjab De’ Chief Amritpal Singh’s party has been named as ‘Akali Dal Waris Punjab De.’ The announcement has been made on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Maghi Mela in Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab.

    About ‘Waris Punjab De’

‘Waris Punjab De’ is a Sikh political group based in Punjab, India. It was founded by the late actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu on September 29, 2021. The group generally advocates for the rights of Punjab and addresses social issues. After Sidhu’s death in February 2022, the party has been taken over by Amritpal Singh. The group worked to encourage the youth to refrain from drugs and advocated for a sovereign Sikh state.

    Who is Amritpal Singh?

This is to be noted that MP Amritpal Singh is currently incarcerated in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail due to his involvement in various criminal activities, including plotting against India and connections with militant groups. He has been charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), NSA (National Security Act), etc.

‘Akali Dal Waris Punjab De’ Party Unveiled

“We are launching the membership from today. Anyone who loves Punjab can join us by filling out the form and becoming a member. Let us come together to save Punjab and protect the Panth,” said Tarsem Singh, father of Amritpal Singh.

In addition to this, the party will have the following members in its committee, including:

    –         Bapu Tarsem Singh Ji

    –         Bhai Sarbjit Khalsa Ji

    –         Amardeep Singh

    –         Harbhajan Singh

    –         Surjit Singh

The president of the party will be elected on April 13, 2025, on the account of Vaisakhi.

The party aims to take over the religious and political influence that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) used to have, as SAD is currently facing decline in Punjab.

First Political Conference of the Party

While the party chief, Amritpal Singh, has been in jail, his father, Tarsem Singh, attended the first political conference in Muktsar. The conference was also attended by Sarabjit Singh Khalsa. He is a Member of Parliament from Faridkot and the eldest son of Beant Singh, one of the assassins of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

He contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Faridkot constituency as an independent candidate but lost to Amritpal Singh, who won from the Khadoor Sahib seat.

Further, a five-member committee has been established to manage the party until a new president is chosen. The committee members are Tarsem Singh, Sarbjit Khalsa, Amardeep Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Surjit Singh.

While making the announcement, Tarsem Singh, father of Amritpal Singh, said that Amritpal Singh will be serving as the president as of now.

“Let us come together to save Punjab and protect the Panth (community). Anyone can join the party and become a member by filling out the form,” he further stated.

Singh also shared that their party has sent three names to the election commission. Out of which ‘Akali Dal Waris Punjab De’ has been approved.

A recent declaration at the political conference stated, “This party is established to address the pressing need for a new political force in Punjab, a necessity that has been strongly felt. At present Punjab is grappling with severe crises. The public of the state, especially the youth, are facing challenges like drug addiction, unemployment, inadequate education, corruption, moral decline, both water and air pollution, lack of health care, and other crises.”

“Once Punjab thrived on the legacy of the mentors; it is now plagued by divisions of caste, communal discord, and discrimination, besides declining social and cultural values. In these challenging times, Shiromani Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) aims to create a transformative vision for Punjab,” the statement further stated.

    Party’s First Election to Contest

In addition to this, the new party is first going to contest the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections before deciding on entering the assembly race.
