Delhi Chief Minister’s oath-taking ceremony was held on February 20, 2025, at Ramlila Maidan, amid a massive mass including political dignitaries, celebrities, and common citizens.
After a long interval of 27 years Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now again been able to finally form government in Delhi with Rekha Gupta as CM and a few other as Ministers including Pravesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and more. BJP had also invited workers, performers, cab and auto-rickshaw drivers, farmers, and slum leaders to the oath-taking ceremony of the new Delhi Chief Minister.
The 9th Chief Minister of Delhi
Clad in saffron, Shalimar Bagh MLA- Rekha Gupta has taken oath, at present as the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi. According to sources, the guest list truly reflected BJP’s vision of an “inclusive” government under its well-known slogan-“sabka saath, sabka vikas (development with all, for all).”
Mass number of women and key voter groups could be seen specially invited. A large number of women who got benefited from BJP’s welfare schemes graced the occasion. The multifarious presence highlights BJP’s effort to connect with different voter groups.
More than 25,000 police personnel and over 15 companies of paramilitary forces kept a strict vigil, around the venue.
CM oath ceremony guest list involved “Common citizens of Delhi, Farmers, Rickshaw and auto drivers Beneficiaries of central welfare schemes, including Laadli sisters; Political Leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, BJP leaders, Ministers, and allies, Chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from 20 BJP-ruled states, Religious Leaders including Baba Ramdev, Swami Chidananda, Baba Bageshwar Dhirendra Shastri, Other spiritual figures; Business & Entertainment Personalities including around 50 movie stars and business leaders, Diplomats from major nations.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the historic Ramlila Maidan which marks BJP’s 26-year return to power in Delhi.
Prior to this, Rekha Gupta had been elected as the new Chief Minister of Delhi following a BJP legislators’ meeting, marking a significant political shift in the capital. Her selection comes amid growing anticipation within the party and its supporters. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj has expressed confidence in Gupta’s leadership, stating, “She will write a new chapter in Delhi.”
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed confidence that under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance and Ms Gupta’s efforts, Delhi will progress to become the developed capital of a developed India. Senior BJP leader Manoj Tiwari calls it a “historic mandate and a historic decision.” Home Minister Amit Shah too affirmed his faith in Ms Gupta’s dedication to fulfilling PM Modi’s vision of making Delhi a top global capital.
“I have full faith that you will work with dedication in the direction of the resolution taken by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji to make Delhi one of the top capitals of the world,” Shah wrote on X.
BJP National President JP Nadda congratulated Rekha Gupta on being elected as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party, expressing confidence in her leadership to drive Delhi towards progress and good governance.
Rekha Gupta has succeeded Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi as BJP returns to power in Delhi after more than 26 years by sweeping the February 5 Assembly polls in the national capital. A ‘Lawyer by Profession with Annual Income of Rs 6.9 Lakh: Rekha Gupta has declared present assets worth Rs 5 Crore.
Rekha and her husband, Manish Gupta have a life insurance policy worth Rs 53,68,323 and a car registered under her husband’s name. She owns a house in Rohini worth Rs 30 lakh.
Rekha Gupta became MLA from Shalimar Bagh after defeating Bandana Kumari of AAP. An active member of RSS, Rekha Gupta started her political journey in 1992 through ABVP. She has served as the General Secretary and President of Delhi University Students’ Union between 1996-97. She also served as Secretary of BJP Yuva Morcha, Delhi (2003-2004), and then as the National Secretary (2004-2006). In the 2025 elections, Rekha Gupta defeated AAP sitting MLA Bandana Kumari by 29,595 votes. Bandana Kumari had been winning Shalimar Bagh since 2013.
Though she contested Delhi Assembly Elections since 2013, she won the elections for the first time in 2025 assembly polls. AAP leader Bandana Kumari had defeated Rekha Gupta in the 2020 polls by 3,440 votes and in the 2015 polls by 10,978 votes. Before contesting elections in 2013, Gupta was a member of BJP’s National Executive since March 2010. She also served as a Councillor from North Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and 2012.
Now, she is the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Atishi. She has become the only woman chief minister among the states being ruled by the BJP at present.
