Tamil Nadu Teacher Hits Student for not Reciting Hindi Poem: Strong Criticism All Around

    Read Later

Teaching is one of the noblest professions in the world. This belief highlights the importance of teachers in shaping young minds and guiding them toward success. Educators are expected to be patient, humble, and dedicated while imparting knowledge. However, a recent incident in Chennai has raised concerns about the conduct of a teacher and the importance of child safety in schools.

Incident at Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram School

Hindi teacher at Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidhyashram School in Kilpauk, Chennai, has been suspended after reportedly hitting a Class III student for failing to recite a Hindi poem. This disciplinary action was taken following complaints from the student’s parents, who were deeply disturbed by the incident.

According to the written complaint submitted by the parents, the teacher allegedly went beyond physical punishment by warning the child that he would not be allowed to enter the school unless he recited the poem correctly. The incident, which occurred a few days ago, left the young student distressed.

Speaking to the media, the child’s parents stated, “Our son was disturbed that day, and we were very concerned about his well-being. We immediately brought the issue to the school’s attention, and we trust that the administration will act in favor of the child.” Despite the seriousness of the situation, the school principal, P.G. Subramanian, was unavailable for comment regarding the matter.

Response from Authorities and Parents’ Welfare Association

The case has also drawn attention from educational authorities and parents’ welfare groups. N. Palanisamy, the director of private schools, acknowledged the incident and stated that he would look further into the matter.

Dharani Prabha, a member of the Students’ Parents Welfare Association, strongly condemned the incident. He emphasized the need for schools to have proper mechanisms in place for reporting and addressing such issues to ensure child safety. , “Schools should establish clear policies and procedures for dealing with such incidents, ensuring that children are protected at all times.” He further added that school management committees should regularly review safety concerns and take necessary steps to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Teachers are expected to create a nurturing and supportive learning environment for students. Any form of punishment that leads to embarrassment or distress should be strictly avoided. Instead, teachers should encourage and motivate students to learn in a positive manner.

    CBSE Guidelines on Corporal Punishment

The Central Board of Secondary Education maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against any form of violence by teachers towards students. According to CBSE guidelines, corporal punishment is strictly prohibited, and any form of physical, verbal, or emotional abuse by a teacher could result in suspension or dismissal.

This policy aims to protect students and ensure that learning environments remain safe and nurturing. Schools are required to adhere to these guidelines and take immediate action against any violation. In light of this incident, the school’s decision to suspend the teacher aligns with the CBSE’s firm stance on child safety and teacher conduct.
