    Two Nigerian Students Killed in High-Speed Car Collision near Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib

    In a shocking road accident, two Nigerian students died after an over speeding car collided with their bike near Amloh, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, on Monday, December 23, 2024. Notably, the incident took place near Desh Bhagat University in the evening. A footage of the incident has been detained where the high-speed car dragged the bike for nearly 50 meters after the collision.

    In a recent investigation, the deceased has been identified as Simon and Mouzo. Both of them were students of Desh Bhagat University. Simon was pursuing a BA LLB degree, while Mouzo was a physiotherapy student. Both of them were in the 3rd semester.

    The two of them were riding on a bike near Fatehgarh Sahib, when a high-speed car struck them, resulting in their own spot death. Following the incident, the driver of the car fled from the scene immediately. Meanwhile, the police have been investigating the case to find the car’s driver.

    Amloh SHO Balbir Singh confirmed that the car and the bike have been detained from the scene, and the police investigation has been continued for the search of the driver.

    Road Accidents: A Rising Concern in India

    Road accidents have been a major issue in India, with several contributing social and economic factors, including poor road conditions, careless driving, defective road design, over speeding, lack of enforcement, and inadequate trauma care. As per the recent data and facts, Punjab sees a high number of road accidents occurring every 69 seconds. Among them, the large and heavy vehicles, like cars, buses, and tractor trolleys, are significant causes, accounting for 10% of deaths. Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable, involved in 83% of accidents. The recent data revealed that 5 people are being killed and 1350 injured in 1257 road traffic crashes across Punjab, every single day.
