    Why did Jharkhand suspend Internet Services for Two Days?

    The State Government of Jharkhand had implemented a comprehensive ban on internet connections throughout the state. The decision was taken to prevent unfair practices associated with the Jharkhand General Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JGGLCCE).

    Suspension commenced from 8:00 AM, and the stay remained in effect until 1:30 PM, after which services will be resumed. The test was administered over two days, September 21 and 22. The test was held at various examination centers located across all 24 districts of the state. The approach aimed to ensure a fair and transparent examination process for all candidates.

    “Mobile internet, mobile data, and mobile Wi-Fi services from all service providers” were expressly forbidden in Jharkhand under the ban. It was clarified by the administration, nevertheless, that “voice calls and broadband services based on fixed telephone lines will remain operational during this period.”

    Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister, mentioned that he spoke with top officials to ensure proper preparations for the examination.

    Soren warned of any attempts to engage in wrongdoings during the examination. Even if accidental, it will be met with severe repercussions.

    The statement reads, “It has been observed in previous instances that some unscrupulous individuals resorted to unfair practices utilizing various mobile applications, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, X (Twitter), Telegram, and YouTube, which rely on Internet/Wi-Fi connectivity.”

    The statement further indicates that the goal of the Jharkhand Government is to eliminate any potential flaws in the examination process. If not, this could likely raise public doubts regarding the integrity of the recruitment procedure.

    The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission will administer the examination across 823 centers. Approximately 6.40 lakh aspirants will participate in the test.
