Cricket is one of the most-watched games in India as it binds all the audiences in any length and breadth. When we take the history of cricket in India, certain matches can never be forgotten just like certain players. They leave an unforgettable mark in the history of cricket and reminiscing those moments could always be refreshing. Sachin Tendulkar also went down memory lane when India won the World Cup in the year 2011.
Sachin’s Rastrapati Bhavan’s Visit
Sachin Tendulkar along with his wife Anjali and daughter Sara visited Rastrapathi Bhavan on Thursday. There he met the President of our country, Smt Draupadi Murmu. At Rastrapathi Bhavan’s Vimarsh Shrikhala Sachin shared his thoughts and took us down memory lane. He said that the 2011 World Cup was his finest till now and expressed his desire to live those moments again.
Sachin Tendulkar while speaking at the event at Ratrapathi Bhavan said “The 2011 World Cup is a memory that I would like to relive. The journey and the dream that started in 1983. I made many attempts and failed but never lost hope. So that’s the best moment of my life”
The 2011 World Cup
The final World Cup match at Wakhande stadium in Mumbai in the year 2011 saw India defeat Sri Lanka by six wickets. In the match, Sri Lanka battled first scoring 274/6 in 50 overs. Mahela Jayawardene scored 103 while Kumar Sangakkara scored 48 runs Nuwan Kulasekara-32 and Thisara Perera -22. Indian bowlers Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan took two wickets while Harbhajan Singh took one.
In response, India also gave a tough fight despite Shewag losing with no runs and Tendulkar getting out at Just 18 runs. The match-savers of the day were Virat Kohli (35) and Gautam Gambhir (97). They established an 83-run partnership on that day. Dhoni(91) and Yuvraj (21) had a victory with an unbeaten 54 runs together. This match made India’s long dream and wait to win the World Cup, come true.
Sachin’s Coach: Ramkant Achrekar
While speaking at the event, Sachin also mentioned his coach, Ramakant Achrekar. He said, “Achrekar Sir played a great part in my life. He used to take me to 5 different nets to bat during summer holidays. He used to ensure that we never took shortcuts that made me mentally strong,”. Sachin revealed this while speaking about his Guru.
Acherkar passed away at the age of 87 on January 2, 2019. He received the Dronachariya Award in the year 1990 for teaching excellence. He also received the Padma Sri award in the year 2010.
Tendulkar received the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the BCCI awards that was held in Mumbai. He has now maintained the highest records of runs in tests and ODIs including 100 centuries.
Sachin’s Journey
Sachin Tendulkar is called the “God of cricket” due to his amazing performances in the matches he has played. His test debut occurred on 15 November 1989, while he was 16 years old. His ODI debut happened on December 18 of the same year.
Sachin accumulated 34.357 runs across 664 international matches, averaging 48.52, remaining the highest international run scorer. His achievements include 100 centuries, 164 half-centuries, and had played 200 text matches.
