As per inputs from top sports news agency, Indian Cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 1478 runs at an average of 54.74 including three centuries and nine fifties in 15 matches played in this year-2024. Also, his highest score was 214 not out against England earlier this year.

In the fourth Test in Melbourne, the 22-year-old opening batter scored 82 and 84. He is now the second in the list of most Test runs scored by an Indian in a calendar year. He is only behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 1,562 runs garnered in 2010.

Jaiswal scored the second-most runs in Tests in 2024 after the fourth match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the second last day of December 2024.

Jaiswal also surpassed Virender Sehwags record of 1,462 runs in 2008 to achieve the best calendar year by an Indian opener. He is now fourth in the overall list of openers, led by Graeme Smiths 1,656 in 2008.

As per inputs from the reliable agencies, Jaiswals wicket during the fifth day of the fourth Test in Melbourne sparked controversy with the batter being given out despite no edge getting registered on the SnickoMeter.

Batting on 84, the left-hander chased a short-pitched delivery going down the leg side from Pat Cummins but miscued his hook shot. Australia appealed for a caught behind, but on-field umpire Joel Wilson turned it down.

When Australia reviewed the call, the replays showed a clear deflection off the face of the bat. However, the Snickometer did not show a spike when the ball passed the bat. The third umpire ruled that there was a clear deflection when the ball passed the bat and hence asked the on-field umpire to change his decision.

Jaiswal argued with the umpires over the decision before walking off. A possible contention over the wicket arises due to the prevalent notion that the third umpire needs conclusive evidence to overturn the decision.

According to point 3.3.6 of Appendix D of the International Cricket Councils Playing Conditions, If despite the available technology, the third umpire is unable to decide with a high degree of confidence whether the original on-field decision should be changed, then he/she shall report that the replays are inconclusive, and that the on-field decision shall stand. The third umpire shall not give answers conveying likelihoods or probabilities.

Speaking to Code Cricket, an Australian publication, Warren Brennan, the owner of the company that operates Snicko, said that only HotSpot could give a certain verdict. That was one of the glance-shots where there isnt any noise, so Snicko shows nothing, only ambient noise. I checked with the audio director, and he said there was no noise either. Probably only HotSpot could have resolved that one, he told the publication. HotSpot is not being used for the series.

As such, the Snicko technology was again under the scanner later in the match during Akash Deeps dismissal. Australia reviewed an on-field not out call for a caught decision at short leg. The Snickometer showed a spike, but only after the ball had passed the bat. The third umpire deemed that as conclusive and overturned the decision.
