Zomato COO Rinshul Chandra Quits: Another Departure Amid Leadership Turmoil
Share
In an interesting leadership churn at Zomato, the company's Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its food delivery business, Rinshul Chandra, has resigned effective immediately. His April 5th resignation was effective by April 7, 2025. Chandra, who joined in 2018 and was promoted to COO in 2023 after working his way up.
He played a key role in expanding Zomato's food delivery business across the country. In an emotional resignation letter to CEO Deepinder Goyal, Chandra expressed gratitude to the company for the experiences he had accumulated in his seven years there. He stated that he was departing to seek "new opportunities and passions" in line with his changing personal and professional goals, characterizing his experience there as "incredibly fulfilling."
Chandra's exit is also a period when Zomato is facing many successive departures. In September 2024, another co-founder and Chief People Officer, Akriti Chopra, also resigned, followed by Gunjan Soni in October 2024, an independent director, due to increasing professional commitments. These consecutive exits signal a bigger inside restructuring or reshuffling as the firm expands in a competitive business market.
Complementing the shift, Zomato has also updated its corporate brand name to "Eternal" recently, a move intended to reflect its diversified portfolio and long-term aspiration for something more than food delivery. Although the new umbrella name, the Zomato brand will continue to exist for its legacy delivery business and app interface, maintaining consumer comfort while proclaiming a wider business ambition.
As Zomato navigates this transition phase, the exit of Rinshul Chandra adds to the uncertainty about its topmost leadership. However, the rebranding and restructuring of the company may be a harbinger of a larger strategic realignment towards long-term viability. Industry observers will now closely watch how Zomato—or Eternal, for that matter—manages succession planning and sustains momentum in the increasingly competitive food-tech space.
