Farah Khan Faces Backlash for her Comments on Celebrity Master Chef

Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer, Farah Khan, has recently found herself at the center of controversy, drawing significant backlash for comments made during her appearance on the television show “Celebrity MasterChef India.”
Farah now finds herself navigating a wave of criticism arising from two incidents in the same show: her remarks about the Hindu festival of Holi and her reaction to actor Gaurav Khanna’s revelation of color blindness.
During the show, she reportedly referred to the festival as “the favorite festival of all the chapri people.” The term “chapri” is a derogatory connotation, often used to describe people with unrefined taste or lacking in sophistication.
This choice of words has been widely interpreted as disrespectful and dismissive, not only towards the vibrant festival of Holi but also towards millions of people who celebrate it with joy and fervor.
The backlash was swift and intense. Social media platforms erupted with condemnations, with many users expressing their outrage and disappointment.
This has led to legal complications, with a formal complaint being filed against her, by Vikas Fhatak, also known as Hindustani Bhau. The complaint alleges that her words have hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community and could potentially incite communal discord.
Critics argued that Farah’s comment was not only insensitive but also potentially capable of fueling communal tensions. But some women are backing Farah online saying that Farah Khan said that Holi is the favourite festival of chapris. She didnt say Holi is the festival of chapris.
Adding fuel to the fire was Khan’s interaction with actor Gaurav Khanna.
There have been multiple videos from the sets of Celebrity MasterChef India that floated online where Farah was seen commenting, ‘What rubbish? to Gaurav as he shared that he was color blind.
The contestants on the show’s sets were challenged to make Farah’s favorite dish, roasted chicken. Gaurav was seen presenting the dish, the color of which looked off to judges Vikas and Farah. Gaurav then shared that he was colorblind, which shocked the judges as well as Farah. She said, ‘What rubbish’ when Gaurav said: “Kuch log jaante hai ki mujhe colour blindness ka problem hai.”
Farah, after making the ‘what rubbish’ comment, made fun of Gaurav. She pointed at Vikas’ orange coloured jacket and asked the actor if he thought that the colour of the jacket was blue.
Khan’s reaction, which many viewers see as dismissive and mocking, sparked further outrage. Social media users criticized her for being insensitive and tone-deaf, accusing her of trivializing a genuine medical condition.
These incidents have sparked considerable amount of debate online, with many expressing their disappointment in Farah Khan’s comments. The backlash highlights the increasingsensitivity surrounding language and cultural representationin the media.
