Indian Railways Set to Construct World’s Longest Hyperloop Test Track
Share
India is all set to make significant strides in the realm of futuristic transportation with the announcement of plans to construct what is projected to be the world’s largest hyperloop test track.
A hyperloop track is a crucial component of the hyperloop transportation system. The core of a hyperloop track consists of sealed, low-pressure tubes. This reduction in air pressure significantly minimizes air resistance, allowing pods to travel at extremely high speeds.
The track provides the enclosed pathway for hyperloop pods to travel. It’s designed to facilitate the movement of pods using technologies like magnetic levitation. This allows the pods to float, further reducing friction.
The advantages of hyperloop technology extend beyond speed. It promises a collision-free commute that is immune to weather disruptions, ensuring reliable travel regardless of external conditions. Furthermore, the system is designed for low power consumption and incorporates energy storage capabilities for 24-hour operations, making it a sustainable and efficient transportation solution.
This initiative follows the successful construction of a 422-meter hyperloop test track at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, a crucial stepping stone in India’s hyperloop journey.
The work done at IIT Madras, with collaboration from Indian Railways, has proven to be a very important first step.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, posting the news on social media, underlined the significance of cooperation between the government and academia in developing innovation in future transport.
The government now aims to construct a 4050-kilometer commercial hyperloop corridor, which, if realized, would be the world’s longest. This large-scale test track will allow for real world viability testing of the hyperloop technology.
This initiative highlights India’s focus on developing advanced transportation infrastructure to meet the demands of its growing population and economy. Along with Hyperloop development, Indian Railways and IIT Madras will also work together on vertical take-off and landing vehicles.
The development of a large-scale hyperloop test track will provide valuable data on the workability and performance of this technology. It has the potential to transform long-distance travel and cargo transport in India.
This project positions India as a leader in hyperloop technology and contributes to the global advancement of this innovative transportation system.
