In a brilliant display of creativity and resourcefulness, recently a video has captured the attention of many users. The video showcases the artistic flair of underprivileged slum children who recreated the iconic fashion designs by the world-renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
It was shared via an Instagram handle identified as notaa.voice. It describes the creativity and modern shift creations with the great Sabyasachis beautifully designed bridal fits. The teenagers in the video were aged between 12 and 17 years. They not only tailored the outfits by using discarded materials but also wore them as models to showcase their creativity, posing with the grubby walls and terraces of slums as the backdrop of their pictures and for ramp walks.
The caption of the video stated, Underprivileged slum kids in Lucknow recreated Sabyasachis iconic designs, using scrap fabrics, highlighting the talent and resourcefulness of these children.
The video of the children was filmed by a 15-year-old boy. The video showcases a comparison between their DIY dresses and the luxurious collections of the renowned Indian Wedding Trousseau designers Heritage Bridal 2023. It stated, Red is not seasonal, its iconic.
The video amassed over 28,000 likes and around 60,000 views on Instagram. Several netizens in the video were seen amazed by the childrens talent. They praised them for the designs they made and celebrated the stunning Sabyasachi designs using donated and collected clothes from their local community.
A user took to his social media and noted, Kids had done a commendable job.
Another user added, Copy Aisa kro jo original bhi fail ho Jaye kids are highly talented.
While other users also took a moment to praise their talent. Kids just nailed it confidence style just wow! a user added.
Some also find them more incredible than the actual brand, Costume Sabyasachi se bhi jyada acha hai, the fourth user mentioned in the comment section.
Which one is real? the fifth user noted.
According to the sources, the video was first posted earlier this month via an Instagram page called Innovation for Change. It is a Lucknow-based non-governmental organization (NGO). It works to serve more than 400 children from the slum areas by providing them free food, education, and job skills. The children featured in the video belong to slum areas. They are also the students of this NGO.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Mehak Kanojia, one of the models in the video, revealed that she and her fellows closely followed the Bollywood celebrities on Instagram and often recreated their outfits for themselves.
This time we decided to pool our resources and work as a group, the 16-year-old girl added.
She further shared that the red color of the outfits was designed by the designers bridal collection. We shifted the clothes that had come to us in donation and picked out all the red items. Then we zeroed in on the outfits we wanted to make and began putting them together, she further added.
Mehak shared that it was intense work to stitch about dozens of outfits in three to four days, but Mehak said they had great fun doing it.
For the ramp work, Mehak said they studied the models carefully in the Sabyasachi videos and tried to copy their moves and poses.
Just like the designers models, some of us wore sunglasses, one drank from a sipper with a straw, while another walked carrying a cloth bundle under her arms.
Meanwhile the viral video has brought attention to the charity school and has been visited by several TV channels. The children were also invited to participate in shows on the popular FM radio stations. They also met several Bollywood celebs, including Tamannaah Bhatia.
It feels like a dream come true. All my friends are sharing the video and saying, ‘You’ve become famous.’ My parents were full of joy when they heard about all the attention we are getting. We are feeling wonderful. Now we have only one dream leftto meet Sabyasachi, Mehak added.
