PM Modi Congratulates ‘Friend’ Donald Trump on Historic Victory

Taking the necessary lead of 295 electoral votes, Donald Trump returned to the White House for his second consecutive term on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Trumps significant victory came after a tough competitive campaign against his Democratic rival Kamala Harris. She secured 226 electoral votes, leading Trumps victory with a margin of over 65.
Meanwhile, for India, Trumps success in the US Presidential Elections 2024 is not just acceptable but also an expected outcome. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump shared a strong personal rapport. Their historic bond is marked by their mutual acceptance, cooperation, admiration, and concern over various geopolitical issues.
While remarking Trumps victory in the 47th Presidential Elections, PM Modi extended his warm wishes and congratulated him via his Official X handle (formerly Twitter).
In his message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, Heartiest congratulations, my friend, on your historic victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term. I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, lets work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability, and prosperity.

Following his congratulatory message, the Indian Prime Minister also informed the audience about his great conversation with Donald Trump via another tweet.
He also shared that he is looking forward to enhancing their relations across various sectors, including defense, energy, space, and several other sectors.
Notably, both PM Modi and Trump shared a strong diplomatic bond with each other. Their close relationship has been witnessed by people across the countries. Some major captures of their friendship were showcased in many larger events, like Howdy, Modi! in Houston in 2019 and Namaste Trump in Ahmedabad in 2020. During these events, both of them addressed the crowd and highlighted their friendship and mutual admiration.
Particularly, India has received significant support from the United States in strengthening its defense capabilities and addressing Chinas influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
The two countries have deepened their strategic ties through various agreements and initiatives. These including the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA). It is one of the foundational agreements to enhance relations between the United States and India. This agreement allows India to access topographical, nautical, and aeronautical data by the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
It also improves the accuracy of automated systems like weapons and drones and enables the effectiveness of military operations.
The US has also been a significant supplier of advanced military equipments such as drones, missile systems, and aircraft, to India.
The United States has also provided India with critical intelligence, particularly in Chinese military movements.
The two countries have also held high level dialogues with each other. These were primarily focused on regional security issues. They also held open discussions on countering Chinas assertive actions in the Indo-Pacific region.
India has also engaged in quadrilateral security dialogue with the US, Japan, and Australia in a strategic move to counter Chinas influence, ensuring to implement a rule-based order in the Indo-Pacific region.
