On April 15, 2025, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued a second summon to Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, concerning a money-laundering investigation linked to a land deal in Shikohpur village, Haryana. Vadra's firm, Skylight Hospitality, purchased approximately three acres of land in 2008 for ₹7.5 crore.

Subsequently, the Haryana town planning department issued a letter of intent to develop a commercial colony on 2.71 acres of this land. Later that year, Skylight agreed to sell the entire parcel to real estate giant DLF for ₹58 crore, with the sale deed registered in DLF's favor.

Vadra's Response and Legal Proceedings

Following the latest summons, Vadra appeared at the ED office accompanied by supporters. Addressing the media, he stated, "Whenever I will speak up for people and make them heard, they will try to suppress me... I have always given all answers and continue to do so." Previously summoned on April 8, Vadra did not attend the session. Upon his appearance, the ED is expected to record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Context of Ongoing Investigations

This is not Vadra's first encounter with the ED. He has been under investigation in other money-laundering cases, including the Bikaner land deal, where Skylight Hospitality was implicated in the purchase of 275 bighas of land in Rajasthan. In that case, the ED issued notices and conducted searches, alleging irregularities in land acquisitions. Additionally, Vadra has faced scrutiny over alleged benami properties abroad, such as a villa in Dubai and a flat in London's Bryanston Square.

Political Implications and Public Perception

The renewed summons to Vadra come at a time when political tensions are high, with opposition parties accusing investigative agencies of targeting political figures. Vadra's association with the Gandhi family adds a layer of political sensitivity to the case. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the political landscape and public trust in legal institutions.
