Toddler Crushed to Death by Scorpio in Punjab’s Barnala

In a heart-wrenching incident that took place inPunjabsBarnala district, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl named Zoya has beencrushedto death after being run over twice by an SUV. The incident took place on the evening of Monday, January 20, 2025.
The toddler was being crushed by an SUV that belonged to a private schools management. It happened when Zoyas father, Suraj Kumar, who works at the same school, visited a church with his wife, named Anupama, and daughter.
The footage of the whole incident was captured on CCTV. Zoyas father, Suraj Kumar, alleged that the school managements Scorpio was being driven recklessly, causing their daughter to be crushed by it. Despite the presence of school officials, no attempts were made to stop the car or rush the wounded child to the hospital. The driver ran over the child not once, but twice, leading to her death on the spot, the grieving family claimed.
Meanwhile, police said on Tuesday that the driver has been arrested and a detailed probe has been launched into the matter.
Speaking to the reporters, the victims father, Suraj Kumar, said that he and his wife, Anupama, were visiting the church with their daughter. My daughter was playing but was run over due to the driver’s negligence. She died on the spot. She was my only child,” he said.
The area was small, and the driver was at a high speed. How could he do that inside such a small space? He should have been careful. When he first ran over her, he should have stopped the car. The car did not stop, and the rear wheels also went over her, he added.
Kumar further also claimed that the occupants of the vehicle, who were believed to be the employees of the school, neither apologized for the incident nor helped them to reach their daughter at the hospital.
“Couldn’t the driver see my child? The car ran over her entirely. I want justice. I cannot treat this incident as an accident. The driver and the school staff did not even come to me to apologize. Who hired him as a driver? Whom will I feed now? Whom will I play with now? Why has no action been taken so far?” he said, while crying.
According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Satbir Singh, the accused identified as Jaswinder Singh has been arrested. He is a resident of Sirsa, Haryana. The vehicle has also been seized. A probe is underway, the officer said.
However, there were no reports from the school that came about the accident.
