Tragic Incident: 26-year-old Man Dies After Setting himself on Fire near Parliament

In a shocking incident, where a 26-year-old man set himself on fire near the new Parliament building on Wednesday, and died during treatment on Friday, December 27, 2024, the officials reported. Notably, the man was identified as Jithendra from Uttar Pradeshs Baghpat district. 

He tried to immolate himself on Wednesday near the Parliament building after pouring a petrol-like substance all over his body. Meanwhile, the fire was extinguished with the help of security personnel and the person was taken to the RML hospital. The man sustained severe burns on his body and was admitted to the burn ward.

Initial Investigation into the Matter

A preliminary investigation revealed that the man had taken this huge step due to a dispute with some people back in his home in Baghpat. His family has been facing two assault cases with another family in their village, due to which he was upset, Police officials said.

Today one person probably Jithendra of Uttar Pradeshs Baghpat set himself on fire in a roundabout rail Bhawan. The issue we can decipher is probably related to personal enmity in Baghpat. Further Investigations are on, Delhi Police said on Wednesday.

The man was carrying a bag on his back with some clothes and a notebook, he sat on the footpath for a few minutes before pouring chemicals over himself and setting on fire.

With his body engulfed, he ran on the road and fell. Security Personnel put the blanket on him to douse the fire, the official stated.

Officials said that Jithendra took a train to Delhis Shahdara railway station on Wednesday morning. The authorities seized his burnt bag pack along with other necessary belongings. A general class train ticket of Rs 15 was recovered from his pocket.

What Hospital Authorities Said?

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have said that Jithendra suffered from 95 percent burn injuries and expired at 2:23 am on Friday. The cause of his death is inhalational burns, resulting from 95% of second-degree deep dermal burns.

After the post-mortem examination, Jithendra’s remains have been handed over to his family.
