Renowned Indian music composer A. R. Rahman was recently hospitalized, which triggered widespread rumours of a serious health condition. Early reports suggested that Rahman had been taken in due to chest pain, raising concerns over his health. However, his team quickly responded to the current rumours by releasing a statement. The official statement explained that Rahman's hospitalisation was due to dehydration and neck pain, which were brought on by extensive travel.
Rahman has now opened up about the incident, sharing the real reason for his hospitalisation. During a candid interview with the media, Rahman shared that he had been fasting and was recently vegetarian. These dietary changes resulted in a severe gastric attack, which led to his hospitalisation. He confessed that when the news was out, he was unaware of the media buzz over his condition. "I was fasting and had even turned vegetarian. I got a gastric attack and was in the hospital. The next thing I got to know was that they had sent out a press note, and it was all there. It was, however, nice to get so many beautiful messages from people and realize that they do want me to live (laughs)," he shared, reflecting on the outpouring of love and concern from his fans.
The experience, although alarming, led Rahman to reflect on his personal journey. He described the health scare as “humanising.” The composer explained that such experiences make people more relatable and grounded, helping them reconnect with their humanity. Rahman noted, "You tend to sometimes hate a person who doesn't feel human. I faced my ups and downs, and that's the truth. Each one of us has a special quality — they are a superhero in their home. But I was made a superhero by my fans." The love and support he has always received from his fans were not lost on him, and also he expressed his deep gratitude for the emotional connection he shares with them.
With the connection he feels with his audience, Rahman has decided to name his upcoming tour "Wonderment." He explained that the name marks his sense of wonder and gratitude at the huge love and blessings he gets from people all over the world. Rahman noted, "This is why I have named my upcoming tour 'Wonderment,' because it's a wonder that I get so much love and blessings from people."
Rahman’s hospitalization and his reflections on his life come amid other personal developments. Recently, the composer and his wife, Saira Banu, made headlines after they both announced that they had decided to separate. In a statement released by their lawyer, it was revealed that the couple had decided to split after years of marriage.
The statement said, "After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time."
Despite enduring all his personal hurdles, Rahman serves as an inspirational figure to numerous individuals. The way Rahman shares information about his health and personal life strengthens his relationship with fans while teaching them about the value of physical and mental health. His authentic and vulnerable nature helps people respect and love him so deeply that he ranks as one of India's most popular individuals.
Through his recovery process, Rahman is demonstrating that his path involves musical greatness alongside emotional growth and insights into human relationships.
